I had to come back and check this now that the results are out, grats on the high rank! Love to see you ended up uploading some screenshots too!
Thank you! Yeah, I took the advice, I didn’t realize at first how much of an effect the ratings were or how much I had to actually compete for people’s attention lol.
Damn! I knew I had to try this game as soon as I saw the thumbnail and screenshots! I'm extremely biased in my feedback here since this is just my type of game. But this was probably the most enjoyable game I've played in this jam! The controlls and movement are really really well polished and the mechanics as well. The gameloop is amazing (I love roguelikes) and the shooting and projectiles are also really well done! However, I do have a few things that I wish were present in the game. First off is the ability to switch weapons with the mouse scroll. It's kinda distracting, at least for me, to use the numbers to switch them. It works well here since you only have up to 4 weapons, but it can get really overwhelming to use the numbers if you get more weapons in the game, so using the scroll or even a radial menu that slows the game, for example, would be an amazing addition for accessibility (also key rebindings! really crucial for these type of games!). Especially for this game since the upgrades menu ALSO uses the numbers to choose the upgrade which can make the player choose an upgrade accidentaly as soon as the menu comes up (it happened to me twice). Also, regardig this, you should make it possible to use the mouse to choose upgrades as well. It's more intuitive, in my opinion. There seems to be also a necessity for balancing as the game seems really easy. I never died and reached the ending pretty easily and despite having an incentive to die, this seems to be kinda overshadowed by the progress you make in game WITHOUT dying since it's relatively easy and you still get upgrades. It also seems to be easy to avoid most projectiles and I found myself kinda just running in circles around enemies (this was and is still is a problem in our game too xD). However, the quality of the systems, the fast-paced gameplay and awesome mechanics make up for these little problems that I'm sure you're going to fix in future updates!
The game is really creative and integrates a simple yet interesting narrative that fits the jam's theme. Even though it might seem just like another roguelike, the world here and vibe is really unique and there's clearly a personality in this project! However, I found it kinda hard to fit the game with the jam's theme as dying was not really incentivised the way it should be, in my opinion. But maybe I played it in the wrong way, sorry if that's the case :(
The graphics are just perfection! Love the vibe, the distorted low poly models, the crispy textures, the simple enemies and animations, the lighting and overall environment was just simply impressive! I also love the VFX of the enemies dying with the little blood explosion and the little gibs they leave on the floor. The explosions feel satisfying, even though they could use a little bit more impact like a screen shake. The HUD is really really well done as well. Love the perspective and font you used which seemed like the player was actually using a helmet. It fits perfectly with the game's theme! Also the little tilt you do with the camera is a nice little touch to the movement of the game. The only complaint I have visually, is the fact that some guns look a little bit off from the rest of the environment, especially the rifle (4th weapon). I feel like you nailed it with the shotgun and pistol. I suggest you keep those as future references for more guns you develop.
Overall, this was probably my most enjoyable experience in this game jam (but again, I'm extremely biased here due to my preference in game genres). The game seems professionally produced with amazing vibes and graphics and even more amazing gameplay that feels smooth and responsive with apparently no bugs! Just phenomenal work you've done here! I am also aware and noticed your message in your game's page here on itch. I'm extremely happy and excited that your team is continuing the development of this game! I'm really looking forward to it and I can't wait for what you're about to cook here! I'll be surely following the development of this wonderful work! And if eventually you need some help with something I'll be glad to help! Congratulations on the insane and promising submission! GG
A pretty dope looking game :) The style kind of reminds me of ULTRAKILL or Blood Thief. I can see it being a pretty big game if you were to work on it further. Well done overall :)
VERY COOL AND AWESOME GAME! This feels super professional and polished. I'm surprised that this was made in 5 days. The only thing is the music and gameplay became slightly repetitive, but that can be expected from a jam game. I was super addicted and will be coming back to this! Can't wait for a more full version!😁😛
Fun arena shooter! A bit too easy for my liking, so I went and replayed with some limitations: Just the pistol, and no Vampirism because it's OP AF. My score wasn't that great, but I managed to beat all 10 waves on 1 life still! The game worked just marvelously as is and fits the theme well. The enemy variety is good for a first version, and the music was the right amount of hype without being too much or too little. Great work!![]()
LOL yeah. Those were our thoughts too but we had to tone down numbers for the sake of the jam. I was afraid we would've made it too hard for certain audiences. The next version of the game will definitely be tougher when we publish it!
Honestly, if you just nerf vampirism to be like, 10% of what it is (so like, you heal 0.5%, not 5%), and maybe dial back the chance rate of damage boost being an upgrade that shows up, you'd have a significant boost in difficulty overall for very little effort. But either way, I'm looking forward to the next version!
has to be my most favorite shooter games in this jam, love the va and the game design, also love the perks when you die and the multiple guns you get, i would see myself spending lots of time playing this game. also the music GOES HARD
I'll make sure to tell Sterr that his music is so popular. Honestly so glad you enjoyed it!
Okay, this is definitely one of my favorites for this jam. It plays great, looks great, and is overall a 10/10, but I think the vampirism should be nerfed because it feels too powerful. Otherwise, the game is amazing, and the way you used the number of points required for a loop to block grinding is genius. (play an our game plz)
This game is REALLY good! that's all I'll say!
Great little shooter game! I also made a shooter
