I can't believe my Morgan became a successful CEO just because his mom guilt-tripped him into it. That would rarely work in real life. Is he happy and satisfied too? lol!

I love the top-down shooter concept, but even on further attempts there are problems with the difficulty. The enemies are way too spongy, it’s hard to tell them apart, and the mom’s projectiles are way too fast. Was there supposed to be a ghost dash mechanic?

I am not 100% sure the game needed multiple weapons. It feels like, style-wise, this could be a winning game, but it needs better (lower) difficulty, and weapon and monster HP balance - oh, and knockback would be sweet!

I would also consider playing with the enemy sizes a bit to make them easier to distinguish. Maybe with free art assets too? Also, if they are positive thoughts, they should not look like evil monsters. It would make the game more fun if they looked like sweet angels or something relating to their description (I know that would be tons of work, so no worries).

Oh, and please, if possible, no text labels on projectiles and enemies. LOLs! It was really cool looking but too away from a pretty solid game entry.

Hi, thanks a lot for taking the time to share and compose such a  detailed post. It's much appreciated.

I do agree with you on the enemy assets, unfortunately I started late and knew I had to sacrifice something from the get go. I added text and tried to vary colors as a 'quicker' way to add enemy variety.

With regards to difficulty, I agree and I made the game that way purposefully. Dying is part of the learning process to figure out which ammo works best, which I think is fairly intuitive for most enemies. I did also add an Ammo Hint feature (press space after game starts) that "crits", letting you know that what you're using is actually effective. Most stuff doesn't one shot but 4-5 hits or less usually gets the job done. It was a feature I added on the last day so it's not referenced anywhere in the start menu.

Having more playtests would have definitely ironed out some initial frustration with progressing through the game. I think I also didn't consider that people might not bother to learn and would want to rush through games (me, i am people), which won't really work here hahaha. This is my first game jam and I think tailoring the game to fit the audience and situation might have been worth exploring.

Really enjoy that you like the game name!! Thanks again for the review, soz your Morgan got a gf. Hope you have a good day 😊

Hey, I beat Enter the Gungeon after a few tries. I put a lot of effort into getting good at this and managed to beat the mom. I think that this difficulty setting being the default and only one is highly optimistic, regardless of whether people are skilled and put in the effort to get good. I think the game is great but the mix of weapon swapping and hordes of similar-looking enemies standing on top of each other does make it a bit extra hard! BTW thanks for giving a free heal before and after the mom.

Your game is great and I can see that effort was put into balancing but hmm it could really benefit from a more casual version.

I respect that you feel the game is balanced already but you might understandably feel it’s balanced since you know it so well.

100% get what you mean.  Your last point is an accurate depiction of the dilemma I was facing at the end. I was so used to it that it felt too easy and mind numbing.

I had two play testers, one that managed to go through the game in 4 tries (albeit I did tell him about the secret way to AFK the Mum Calling) and the other one was stuck at the Mum Calling and was hoping they'd explore a bit haha

If you managed to beat her "regularly" then good job!!

Really appreciate your thoughts and will definitely take these points into consideration if I ever find myself working on another game. Feedback like this is very valuable :D

I really love what you did and find it to be well made. I did beat her a few times but now I am having trouble again. Got any pointers without cheating?

⚠️ Spoiler ⚠️ I enjoyed drowning my childhood memories in alcohol though! And I can't believe my guy goes to the gym regularly, luvs his mom, participates in HG coaching, spends time with his kids and streams. I have failed him!

*flush*

Hope this helps. 😁

Thanks lol! I didn’t realize you don’t have to deal damage. Glad I can experience the rest of the game easily. I was fighting and thinking I am making a difference. LOL

I finally beat the game. It was satisfying! I think the extra difficulty really hit the spot. The mom boss, knowing I can take cover behind a table and that I do not have to attack continuously, really helped. A lot of this stuff, like learning guitar, eating healthy food, going to the gym, and doing yoga, are things I relate to.

I hope you enjoy a great career making games if that is what you want, or have it as a prolific side hobby if that what you’re going for. Your game was fun.
