Yep, there is also a little (i) icon on each title screen to indicate that you can get more info by pressing select. But that's easy to miss.
I agree that it would be nice to have an in-game indicator when you have beaten the current highscore. But I barely had minutes left before the game jam's deadline. So, including that wasn't really an option 😅
