To be honest I didn't have a process, I try to feel the music on live and try to respect the theme and the picture (for Waiting the most) and after try to find a little story but I think I need to write before and AFTER make music !
Think a melody with a big reverb can make space on headphone. The guitar in soundtrack can feel "summer"
