Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 8! My name's Hythrain, a co-host and one of the streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live as I stream your game! If you're interested in seeing my live reaction, let me know and I can send you a link to the VOD once it's posted to YouTube!

So my normal approach for any game in these events is simple: I get the game, make sure it's not a virus, then play it with as little information on how to play as possible. This way, I can judge how intuitively someone can figure out the game. Only if it's obvious that I need to read more will I do so. I note this so you can get a sense where some of these feedback comes from. In addition, I want to note that feedback and rating are different; don't use this feedback to gauge what I'll rate, nor should you view my rating as entirely indicative of my feedback.

So I quickly got the idea of what this game was and what I was supposed to do. However, I honestly didn't get to do very much despite spending 40 minutes on it. Worry not, I know precisely why and I have every intent to share. but first, I need to explain myself.

When I got the game running, I opted to do the tutorial to see if there was anything to learn. Upon first entering, I was greeted to a mop and a button. I grabbed the former and pressed the latter with lovely body parts falling around me. The game proceeded to inform me to mop the blood left by the monsters, then to use buckets of water to clean the mop; an act that would make bloody water. Okay, makes sense. However, this would become the first point where I started having issues. See, I'm the sort of player who likes having things organized. It's a result of autism. So I organized the monster parts in one spot for me to get as needed, then I went about cleaning up all the blood on the floor, making a special patch in one spot for me to use at my convenience. However, several times when I would go to put the mop in the bucket... THE BUCKET WOULD FALL AND EMPTY OUT. I had to repeat the process of cleaning the blood because I'm a freakin' weirdo, but it was frustrating.

Next, it informed me to get some seeds and to put them on a monster piece to make them grow. I could even use the bloodied water to speed the process up. Excellent. I love it. I was waiting for this. The plants grew and they gave me... more seeds. Huh. Okay. Let's continue with the tutorial. It told me to put another type of seed in blood. Okay, so I grabbed my mop and made a second spot of lots of blood for those seeds. Dropped a couple down and watched them grow. Again, bloodied water sped it up. Amazing!

And then the game decided to give me an instruction that I am just lost for: purple seed w/ blood + brown seed w/ monster part = hybrid seed! Wait, I can do hybrid seeds?! That sounds cool! Let's try it!

First I put a monster part beside my huge patch of blood. I sprinkled both types of seeds down in this area. I also got some bloodied water to speed the process up. My reward... was no new seeds.

Okay, that didn't work. Well, the purple seeds, when fully grown, allow you to extract water. Maybe if I extract the water and make it bloody then pour it on the seeds on the monster part, that would do it? Well, no. It did nothing.

I must've done something wrong. I went back to the original philosophy, with the two being on each other now and again sprinkling water. YET ONCE AGAIN, I WAS NOT GIVEN ANY NEW SEEDS.

AND THEN. AS I WAS WRITING THIS OUT, I THOUGHT "Wait... maybe I'm supposed to wait longer?" And so I did so and TRUTH BE TOLD! A NEW THING SHOWED UP! OUT OF NO WHERE! BUT BY THIS POINT I HAD SPENT OVER AN HOUR AND NEEDED TO END MY STREAM SO I COULD TAKE CARE OF STUFF BEFORE THE NEXT STREAM I WAS DOING IN TWO HOURS!

Thus, I did not really get to experience the game properly. So here is my feedback: have the tutorial say something about needing to wait and to teach about the state of the plants because, by Cthulhu's name, I could've done so much more and been able to give better feedback than this if I had known. D:

I'm gonna go cry in a corner once my stream ends over this shame I've brought on myself...

Thank you for writing all that out, I’m glad you got it in the end! A hint: they’ll only cross breed if the “source” plant is fully grown. I see how the tutorial is unclear (and could use a more organized mess, apologies for the extra time mopping 😅)

I’m planning a rework to the tutorialization and it helps a lot, thanks for playing and for your patience! I’m learning a lot in the jam, so thank you for co-hosting!
