Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 8! My name's Hythrain, a co-host and one of the streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live as I stream your game! If you're interested in seeing my live reaction, let me know and I can send you a link to the VOD once it's posted to YouTube!
So my normal approach for any game in these events is simple: I get the game, make sure it's not a virus, then play it with as little information on how to play as possible. This way, I can judge how intuitively someone can figure out the game. Only if it's obvious that I need to read more will I do so. I note this so you can get a sense where some of these feedback comes from. In addition, I want to note that feedback and rating are different; don't use this feedback to gauge what I'll rate, nor should you view my rating as entirely indicative of my feedback.
A curious game. There's a lot going on in this game that gives it a much deeper level than the pixel art graphics might make it seem. It took me a bit to get the hang of what was going on, but once I did I was making good progress!
I have three particular issues with this game. The first is how unbalanced it can be. If your first enemy is an enemy with high speed, high evasion or just a lot of power to them, you can get really screwed over and your run ends early. By contrast, if you get just a couple of specific upgrades then it becomes easy to steam roll through the enemies in later stages. It'd be nice if there was a balance to this, where the first stages will always have weaker enemies while later stages have stronger ones.
The second issue is how players can "level up" tiles, but we don't see any change in them. As such, I'm not sure what the intent of this is.
The third is the translation. I'm assuming English isn't your first language with this, but I noticed a lot of typos and grammatical errors. Normally, I'd just quote the lines in question and offer ways to fix them but it seems to be so many that I'm just going to do something else: if you're willing to accept the help, I'd be happy to help fix the translations and make them cleaner. I've already made a list of the lines from the tutorial and have written corrected versions for them. To finish up the ones I've not done, and to cover all the other parts of the game, I can talk directly with you and help you get it all put together. Let me know if you're interested.
Other than this, there were some bugs when trying to play. In my first run, I had gotten two Warlock Armors (but had not equipped them) which somehow resulted in my HP becoming NaN. Fights would then play out without us seeing them, with me eventually winning regardless. We then had another bug where the characters just stopped fighting. it was odd. I was still interact with stuff in the game, but the fight wouldn't continue. When I changed the combat speed to be max, I stopped having bugs pop up.
Oh, I'm also concerned that magic is currently very weak. When you start the game, the physical attack is triggered more often than the magic attack, and you also have more strength than magic. I assume this is because magic goes through armor, but every time I tried to use magic I just found it inferior in every way. Perhaps if there's a boost to the starting level of magic?
