🎥 Cutscenes & Animation Pipeline

Cutscenes are a huge part of making Harem of Valerius feel alive, and I’ve officially started crafting them! My pipeline involves motion capture, which I then retarget, clean up, and refine to fit the characters and the scene. This process takes time, but the results are promising, and I’m thrilled with how they’re coming together.

In HOV progress, I super happy to see  how much we have made so far. 
The game is much more close to release v1.0.2 and this will include  amount of bugs and improvements.   

I am planning to release the new build next week, I have to focus on bug testing, however my early tests were ok, I will try to release a clean game.

Hello everyone!

After weeks of hard work, I’m excited to share the latest improved prototype version of Harem of Valerius! This update brings a ton of improvements, new mechanics, and fixes, all aimed at refining the core experience. Let’s dive into what’s new:

🔥 Major Updates & Additions

Blocking Mechanic – Combat is now more tactical with the ability to block incoming attacks. Perfect your timing and stay alive!
New Maps – Two fully completed maps are now playable, covering both Side Scroller and Real-Time Strategy modes.
Extra Test Map – Added a third map specifically to test and refine the map system further.

🎬 Cutscenes & Adult Content

First Adult Scene Implemented – A big step in storytelling and character development! It’s still a work in progress, but it adds depth to Valerius' journey.

⚔️ Combat & Gameplay Improvements

Basic Traversal & Melee Combat Tweaks – Movement and combat feel smoother and more responsive.
New Enemy & Boss – One enemy type and a test boss have been introduced to start balancing encounters.
Ability System Introduced – Valerius is getting stronger! This lays the foundation for more skills in future updates.

🏛️ Village Mode Expansion

City Upgrades & Rebuilding – After intense battles, return home to rebuild and improve your village. This feature will evolve over time!

🎵 Music & Sound

10 Original Soundtracks Added – The game now has an enhanced atmosphere with more immersive music!

🛠️ Bug Fixes & Polish

✔ Numerous bug fixes improving stability across all modes.
✔ General improvements to the UI and visuals.

Hey friends!

I wanted to share something I’ve been working on with a lot of passion—our Notice Board system, inspired by one of my all-time favorite mechanics in The Witcher 3.

In our world, stories don’t just happen around the player… they live in the people, the places, and even the parchment nailed to old wooden boards.

This system lets you discover optional quests, posted by villagers, miners, traders, and sometimes... darker forces. They won’t always shout at you for help. Sometimes, it’s just a quiet note left behind, a warning, or a plea.

Like this one — "No Miner Returns."
A simple call for help? Maybe.
But scratch the surface and you’ll find whispers, bones, and something far older than stone waiting in the dark…

💀 I love writing these grounded, eerie stories that give life to the world and flesh out the people living in it. And yes—if it feels like something from an old folktale or ancient myth gone wrong... then I’m doing it right.

Expect more mysterious, dark, and sometimes tragic quest notes as the game grows. 🖤

🚧 Dev Log Time!




Big milestone reached — the core mechanics are finally coming together!

I've been deep in action and romance mode improvements, and I'm thrilled to say:
✅ Basic animations are complete
✅ Polishing is underway
✅ Test phase is just around the corner!

The upcoming demo will feature:
🎮 Two action-packed side-scroller maps
🏡 A sandbox village mode — endless gameplay with a small questline
💘 And... a romance cutscene over 180 seconds long 👀

This demo marks the completion of 6 months of work. It's the moment where everything starts to click — and it feels incredible. After testing, we’ll move straight into Steam Page production and polish everything for a broader release.

  • Mid-End Systems, Rejoice! Worked tirelessly to ensure the game runs smoothly even on mid-tier PCs. No more slideshows, promise! (I hope :) ) 
  • Graphics Settings, Fully Functional: Tweak resolution, shadows, and textures to find your system’s sweet spot.

2. ⚔️ Combat Just Got Sharper

  • Balanced Difficulty: 
  • New Ability: Wall Jump! 🧱 Verticality matters now! Explore hidden areas with this slick move. (Pro tip: Try it near the eastern ruins!)

  • No Game-Breaking Bugs… Yet! In my tests, everything held up. But – to be 100% sure – I’m organizing a testing session soon. If we dodge any nasty surprises, demo drops as planned!
  • This is a Rough Draft! The June goal: Polish this build into a gem. Expect:

This week was tougher than expected - technical issues slowed me down, but there's still progress to share!

Episode 3 Milestones: ✅ Environment Built:

  • Castle & walls completed (finally sets the medieval tone!)
  • Placed key location models to establish the chapter's identity

✅ Art Upgrades in Progress:

  • Hired a freelance artist to:
    • Replace all AI placeholder portraits
    • Design period-accurate clothing (because immersion matters!)


✅ Chapter Design Locked:

  • Features 2 adult scenes + action-packed level design
  • Heavy focus on narrative-driven combat

On My Plate Next:

  • NPC model refinements
  • Ambient sound design
  • Costume implementations
  • All character portraits
  • Transition cutscenes

Testing Pipeline:

  1. Closed Discord testing → 2. Patreon release → 3. Public launch

Harem of Valerius Development Update: New Steps in Episode 3!

I'm back with new updates! Here are the latest developments:

🎭 Character Updates

  • Elpis and Thetis are now in the game!
    • Their models and special outfits have been successfully added.
    • The characters now fully blend into the story.

💃 Brothel Mechanics Improvements

  • Bugs in cutscenes have been fixed.
  • Romance  sequences are now smoother and more seamless. Note : I will fix the hair shaders

🏙️ Revitalized City Atmosphere

  • New NPC animations have been added.
  • The streets now feel more dynamic and alive.

🔮 Next Goal: Thetis' Ship & City Management

After completing Thetis' quest:

  • New city mechanics will be introduced.
  • Randomized quests will unlock through Thetis' ship.
  • Manage the ship to gather resources and strengthen your city.

Harem of Valerius Dev Log: Back with Major Updates!

After a refreshing summer break, Harem of Valerius is back in action! 🚀

This year has been intense, and I needed a slightly longer pause to recharge. But don’t worry—I wasn’t idle! During this time, I wrapped up Episode 3, including the highly anticipated Brothel Mechanic and its accompanying cutscene. This level turned out exciting and visually engaging!

But that’s not all! This week, I introduced a brand-new mechanic to the real-time strategy ; Naval Mission Mechanics

Remember Captain Thetis, the fierce and beautiful commander you rescue in Episode 3? She returns to your city with her fleet, now under your command! Send her naval forces to resolve troubles across the region. Strengthen her fleet to increase mission success rates—tougher missions mean richer rewards! ⚓

With 30 different scenarios and mission types, each offering unique rewards, strategic gameplay has never been this immersive.

This week has been incredibly productive! While I've been heavily focused on the action segments of Episode 3 lately, I knew the City Building mode needed some love—so this week was dedicated entirely to that.

I’m excited to introduce three new building models: 🏰 Tavern

🛏️ Brothel

With these additions, I’m proud to say that all the content promised for Episode 3 is now complete!

What’s next? We’ll be showcasing approximately 2–3 hours of gameplay up to Episode 3 at Steam Next Fest! This month, I’ll be focusing on polishing the game and refining existing mechanics.

I’ll also be more active in inviting friends and supporters to our Discord and Patreon, as I want to gather more feedback and suggestions—especially about gameplay mechanics. I’ve designed the game to be highly modular, so if everything works as intended, we can implement plenty of great ideas together.

I’m thrilled with the progress so far, and I’m especially happy to announce that a special Patreon-exclusive build will be released this month! This version will include gameplay elements not available in the public demo.

If we can secure sufficient funding through Patreon, I plan to collaborate with a freelance UI designer to further enhance the game’s visual presentation.

This isn't just another update; it's the heart of the project beating louder than ever. For me, a solo developer, this journey is a marathon—a exhausting, exhilarating, and deeply personal one. Balancing development with delivering regular, playable chunks to you is the greatest challenge, but your incredible support makes it possible. This milestone is as much yours as it is mine.

I've poured everything into making this chapter something special, further cementing our unique blend of Side-Scroller Action and City-Building Strategy.

  • Deeper Consequence & Connection: Your adventures in the side-scroller world now have a more profound impact on your city, adding a rich layer of strategic depth. Every choice matters.
  • Meet Thetis & Elpis: Two powerful, complex women now join the narrative. I can't wait for you to unravel their stories—they are pivotal to Valerius's journey and will play major roles from here on out.
  • New Mechanics to Master:
    • Fleet Missions: Send your naval forces on daring adventures across the seas and await their return with valuable loot. Expand your influence from the comfort of your throne.
    • BrothelMechanics (v1): This is just a small, tantalizing taste of a system I'm incredibly excited about. While this initial version is a modest 10% of the full vision, it adds a lovely flavor to a key quest and—for our Patrons—offers a chance to romance  with different NPCs. The full vision will blossom in Episode 4!

I’ll be honest with you: my feelings about the upcoming Steam Next Fest are a tangled mix of pure excitement and sheer terror.

I'm excited because thousands of players will finally experience the world we're building together. I'm eager—and yes, a little nervous—to hear all your feedback.

I'm terrified because we're still sitting at around 800 wishlists. For visibility on Steam's colossal stage, that's a daunting number. The festival could be a huge opportunity for us, but only if those views turn into wishlists.

Yeah folks, I'm writing this under the influence of a bit of whiskey and a lot of exhaustion. To be honest, I'm really emotional. It's been almost a full year. A lot of time has passed since the day I announced my game, Harem of Valerius, on this forum. I think only one person ever commented here; it's been pretty silent, and frankly, I guess this is a place nobody really cares about.
