It runs!

First of all, good job! The game is actually, genuinely fun. I did find the colors to be a bit harsh, but that might be because I’m colorblind especially with red/green lol

I really liked the initial animation, and the way things get introduced, it feels very professional in a way. You guys made a lot with seemingly very little. I love that the graphics are pixel perfect, and the music scaling up with the gameplay is awesome!

I’m sad to say I didn’t manage to beat the game after a couple of tries though. Trying to think of some constructive feedback, I think visual clarity could be improved. e.g. the ships spin before shooting the laser, but they also spin while falling so it’s not immediately clear whether you shot them down, or if they’re gearing up for an attack.

Also, I think for the purpose of a game jam, there’s something to be said about being more lenient with the difficulty, and allowing more hardcore players to simply have a higher, abstract, score or simply allowing for difficulty selection. The lasers being hit-kill, and having to begin from the tutorial every time doesn’t feel nice.

Nonetheless, I would like to end by saying this feels very polished, even if it seems very simple. It’s even more impressive considering this wasn’t made using a game engine. Very nice!

Oh shoot! I always forget to include accessibility options. Of course I managed to choose red/green. I will remember this!

Awesome criticisms. Thank you. I will brainstorm how I can improve the gear up/falling. The first thing I plan to do after the voting period is add a way to skip the tutorial, so I totally get that too. I will have to work on difficulty as well!

Thanks a ton for your feedback and your persistence in getting the game to run!
