Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 8! My name's Hythrain, a co-host and one of the streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live as I stream your game! If you're interested in seeing my live reaction, let me know and I can send you a link to the VOD once it's posted to YouTube!

So my normal approach for any game in these events is simple: I get the game, make sure it's not a virus, then play it with as little information on how to play as possible. This way, I can judge how intuitively someone can figure out the game. Only if it's obvious that I need to read more will I do so. I note this so you can get a sense where some of these feedback comes from. In addition, I want to note that feedback and rating are different; don't use this feedback to gauge what I'll rate, nor should you view my rating as entirely indicative of my feedback.

So upfront, I'll admit I'm not a fan of the original RE games. I've just never been a fan of tank controls, though I love the use of fixed cameras. So when I started this up, I thought I was going to have a bad time. That said, I got through the entire demo despite how I feel about the controls and was really getting into it.

Admittedly, it's hard for me to give feedback on this as the vast majority of it was just running from one point to the next. There were only a few scattered enemies, with half of them existing in a single room. This leaves gameplay feedback rather limited. There are really only two things I can comment on regarding gameplay. First, I'm not a fan of that room with three enemies. In fact, that entire room feels like a useless trap given that the reward is just ammo. I'd much rather see the enemies reduced in that room and it be given an additional reward to make it less pointless. Second, I ADORE the chess puzzle. That was, by far, the highlight of this. Solving that puzzle was so fun, especially once I realized how it was supposed to work. I definitely think you should have more puzzles like that one.

Now I'm going to switch into the topics I feel I can discuss. First, I'll cover visuals. The artstyle of this game is really nice, and the assets being used look great. Everything feels cohesive and like it all belongs. I did notice some visual oddities, such as blocked out assets in the service corridor, but these weren't common. If there was anything I could say regarding the visuals it's that things felt a little empty. Very few rooms had more than one or two decoration items, which gave the place an empty feeling. This, in turn, makes the house feel less like an old, abandoned home and more like some empty building that just randomly had certain rooms given furniture. Hallways in particular could use small things to spice them up.

In terms of sound, the whiplash from some rooms being absolutely silent and others having very loud ambience was a little jarring. The attic-like area and the kitchen in particular are rather loud. I'd like to see a bit more ambience added to other rooms. Doing so would allow you to use silence far more effectively to create tension for the player, as once they get used to ambience everywhere it can make silence frightening.

Since I know you're aiming at being an RE clone, I'm not going to comment on the controls. I wouldn't mind seeing a second set of controls for people who don't like tank controls, but I also realize how that could result in people not using the tank controls so I wouldn't push for it.

I have two things to finish this up. First, when you pick up the tutorial item in the chess room, parts of it reads in... I'll admit, I'm not 100% sure of the language. I assume it's your native language. I figured you would want to know about this since you brought this demo to FQ8 with an English translation. Second, I had a bug occur when I got near the boarded up door, where my character dropped slightly into the floor and then couldn't escape.

I do hope to see more of this! I like it a lot and like seeing horror games show up in FQ events! Let me know if you update this during the jam!

Hey, thank you so much for the detailed feedback! I’ll definitely check out the VOD.

I agree with all the points you mentioned, and I’ll keep working to improve those areas. You’re right — English isn’t my first language, so I’ll take another look at the translations.

A second control option was already on my to-do list, and I plan to implement it. I’ll also focus on improving the ambience and sound effects, since I agree they’re lacking in several areas, and add more set dressing to make the rooms feel less empty.

As for the chess puzzle, I can’t fully take credit — it’s based on a physical puzzle. If I ever aim for a commercial release, I’ll design a new one of my own to replace it.

Thanks again for the great feedback!
