Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 8! My name's Hythrain, a co-host and one of the streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live as I stream your game! If you're interested in seeing my live reaction, let me know and I can send you a link to the VOD once it's posted to YouTube!
So my normal approach for any game in these events is simple: I get the game, make sure it's not a virus, then play it with as little information on how to play as possible. This way, I can judge how intuitively someone can figure out the game. Only if it's obvious that I need to read more will I do so. I note this so you can get a sense where some of these feedback comes from. In addition, I want to note that feedback and rating are different; don't use this feedback to gauge what I'll rate, nor should you view my rating as entirely indicative of my feedback.
I'm going to open my feedback with a comment I always find myself making for multiple games during Feedback Quest events: if your game is going to be on PC, it needs to have PC controls in mind as well. While having controls for controllers is always nice and can help make a game more enjoyable to play for folks who prefer controllers, not everyone has them. That said, I did find you put in PC controls but they felt rather janky to use (WASD was fine, but PL;' was strange). Perhaps for PC controls, make it where you just always use WASD for an arm and just switch between arms using space bar, while keeping the mouse clicks for grabbing.
Ok, moving on. First, visuals. The playable character, JB, looks rather cute and the style of this game looks well made. Objects that can be interacted with are either colour-coded or visually obvious, which is very nice. It allows the player to focus more on the actual controls than on having to hunt things out, which is 100% the challenge in this game I feel.
Sound wise, it also works. I don't have much I can say in either direction though there were two things I wanted to bring up, both related to when you die: first, the speed of which the voiceover goes "JB? JB?" is very fast compared to the rest of her talking. I would recommend a small pause or even removing the second "JB?" to make it flow better. Second, the death line is often interrupted very quickly. I had several deaths where the voiceover wouldn't even get the second "JB?" out before it cut off and I restarted. Oh, also the "Good job you are water proof" line is weird. Wouldn't it be "Good thing you are water proof" ?
Gameplay wise, I have mixed thoughts. On one hand, the idea is very fun and interesting. On the other hand, some parts had issues; from not being obvious enough (such as the part where you need to grab a climbing point on a pipe that's just further into the background and then drop onto a pipe, which I only got passed because someone else thought of it) to not working properly the first time I execute them (when you need to use the crane to get into a background spot, twice it wouldn't let me onto the appropriate spot despite doing it right) to just feeling like the speed necessary was too tight (the area with the spinning climb points. This was as far as I got in the demo for reasons besides just the speed requirement).
Lastly, I want to dive into the controls. While I perfectly understand the freedom that press and hold gives for grabbing onto stuff, I also found it absolutely infuriating that there was no "press and you won't let go" option. You have an option to turn this on, but it's specifically for double pressing. Double pressing should just be part of the default controls, while there should be an option to turn on a "press once to either hold or let go" option. I also had issues where I would be holding (both with lock on grabs and press and hold) only for the game to just let go. This happened multiple times during the spinning climb points, which played into why I stopped there.
I also want to suggest that you also add support for Switch and PlayStation controllers, with the controls matching what people with those controllers would be used to (particularly with Switch controllers, where Confirm and Cancel are swapped compared to both PlayStation and X-Box controllers). This might seem weird, but going back to my thing about PC controls and controllers... while I do own controllers I can connect to my PC, they're not X-Box controllers. I primarily use a Switch controller if I use one on PC, but that also means I'm used to pressing different buttons for confirm and cancel.
I think that's about it for me. I may give this game another go towards the end of the event if I have time, just because I do want to see what's beyond the spinning climb. I do like the game's concept a lot, so I'm hoping my feedback can give you some stuff to work on.
