last version i played was 0.15 or so, tried to play some more in 0.17.2. but didnt finish that one.
every harem game is the same in concept, the player is exposed to emotional or psychological damage, repeatedly, but is incentivized to keep engaging with it in hopes of it paying off later with good scenes and a story. this game is no different.
i had a fun time with the game, outside of some events that happen because they hit too close to home so to speak. that is, until i encountered one specific part of the game, after which i played for a short while more and then stopped playing it because the game's developer demonstrated clearly enough what he thinks of anyone with specific beliefs who recognizes that despite having beliefs of their own, there are times when setting those beliefs aside has more value because something superordinate else is at risk.
fighting the power, so to speak, is what makes an rpg's story compelling, though it depends on what lenghts the developers go to, to establish said power. but this isnt an rpg, this is a harem game, and the “power” can be condensed down to the balding, fat, unkempt man shouting
“Make Sylanar Great Again”
sure, who wouldnt side with their harem of women over some balding fat -ist? problem is, i dont think thats what the developer is doing here. its an attempt at subversion of whoever it is that decides to play this game, an attempt to break the 4th wall. do you have any semblance of nationalism in you? are you proud of the history of those that came before you? their triumphs, downfalls, everything inbetween, and the fact that despite, or thanks to all that, your nation still exists, you are here, and alive?
congratulations! you are exactly the same as that balding fat guy!
a balding and fat counter-protester is used as a strawman to represent anyone who recognizes nuance. the world that this developer constructed is half-fantasy and half-inversion of the world we live in. the caucasians in this game (whites) are a mix of how a muslim and an african would behave toward a female slave. all the while they are portrayed as rampant ists that may or may not shout make america whoops sorry that slipped in there, lemme try again, make sylanar great again.
the player engages in rebuilding a nationalism movement for elves, trying to convince all sides that elves have learned from their past mistakes and that their race should be preserved, that their culture, beliefs and the like are worth preserving. its curious then, that the very similar real-life movement that is about nationalism resurgence, persevering of a race's culture and restoring its own belief in itself, is inverted in this game. from maga to msga.
this is the only time when i will offer you, the developer, what you havent offered me, the anonymous player of your work. a nuanced approach. i would appeal you to rethink the mockery you added to the game which is otherwise fine, but, chances are you really like what you've done there.
