Eyyy, mate.

It's fantastic that someone (still) has the spirit to try to write code for an 8086 with CGA. I thought I was the only one. I think the game is awesome, and in its heyday it would have been a huge hit.

I agree with you that the difficulties presented by CGA and 640k generate challenges that you have to overcome by researching and trying out lots of things with the code.

Just a clarification - this is not 8086-compatible. It requires a 386, since I'm targeting protected mode, using DJGPP as a cross compiler.
