This is insane in the best way possible, an absolute bonkers idea that's really, really fun. Like some of the players have mentioned, I think limiting the amount of duplicating you can do will not only help performance but also make the player think a bit more strategically about how they want to play. Maybe forcing the player to get all duplicates to the end goal so that when you double a lot, you get a lot of firepower, but now you can't maneuver as easily. Either way, there's a really cool idea in here that I think with a bit more refinement and polish could turn into a really nice prototype.
