  • Hey there. :) So, the game has very good things, like the writing/story, you are not afraid to talk about very hard/dark subject, and throught your writing, we can feel each character personnality. It's not perfect, but, overall, i liked it. The big issue, tho, is your combat system. I can see that you tried to make it original, or at least not default, but it's pretty confusing. There is percentage and number everywhere, and we don't know to what they are refering to. Two example : when we hit an enemy, two numbers appears. Which one is the damage one ? What is the second one ? Second example, when select if we make a weak/medium/strong attack, what are the percentage next to the attack ? Also, we can choose which part of the body to attack. That's cool, but... is this really helpful ? Does it serve a purpose ? Like, does some enemies are weak at their head ? We don't know. Last thing, the forest map is reaaaaaally dark. Too dark. Anyway, you put a lot of effort in that game, thank you for that, well done, and see ya ! :) Drag.
  • I can see a lot of work was put into this entry and I really appreciate the effort. Also, good job pushing the default assets far enough that we had to ask for clarification, it looked very nice and I thought it was very creatively done. The writing was good imo, barring the grammar, spelling and capitalization errors. The story was definitely edgy and you took a risk with it, not everyone will respond favorably to such a bleak, raw narrative. The battle system was ascetically pleasing, but also very confusing, tbh, I had no idea what was happening. You mentioned that this is your first game and I have to say I'm impressed, you have a knack for some crucial aspects in game design, keep at it, you'll do well imo.

After driftys stream I decided to check this game for my own.  The story and cutscenes were cool even tho I didnt get to know the ending bcs I have no idea what to do after the girl visited her fathers grave.

About the gameplay:

-I cannot access the menu and its very annoying: I can't change settings, look at what items I have or load a game.

-Even with the vast tutorial at the first battle I still don't understand the battle system(I'm not stupid) like whats the point of targeting different parts of body, where is the characters hp and mp and is the mc invincible? Its really hard to tell bcs the HUD is so confusing.

In the end I rated it slightly higher than the average jam entries I've played before.

The Tragedy of Adam. I guess a tale inspired by the Bible? That's interesting. We can see you put a lot of yourself into this. The work is there and it's ambitious. ... Maybe too ambitious for its own good though. Let's get over what I noted.

- Syranda have no battle sprite?

- I'm pretty sure I tried to draw on one monster, but another one played the draw animation.

- Battles are slow and complex. That's not exactly engaging...

- To be fair, I didn't even understood what lowered HP to begin with. I once got over 100% damage and still didn't lost 1 HP. Damage popups get confusing because there is no clear interaction with the percentage nor actual HP.

- I don't really get how it's so different to target a specific body part. A way to go with things is maybe make status where you can make the target prevent to use moves requiring its hands or feet like in Live-A-Live. Just saying as an example. On top of that, some enemies only appear to have just their head. Why the head isn't the only body part we can attack? It's incoherent.

- Pressing Enter multiple times during some battle phases will cause a sound effect to play as many times. There was even a time where I had to click to pass the run away text box because Enter didn't worked, but I have no idea what caused this and couldn't reproduce the bug since.

- Sometimes the mapping gets weird with things that look out of place because they stop straight. (If you see what I mean.) That's not very visible at first glance, but still noticeable.

- Typos.

- There is a point where Girl found Static. But upon drawing the game informs me she drew Shift instead.

- There is a moment, after inspecting a grave, where the game asks me if I want to teleport to the mountain or keep exploring, but I don't get a choice for some reason. So... I guess this is where the game ends? I don't know. Tell me if it's not the case.

If you intend to go forward with that project, you need to polish it more. Make the battle go faster and remove unneeded elements. Don't dump your whole tutorial in one battle. Let your players breathe. If you have a lot to explain, make your tutorial in various times. You could start with Re'Karu and keep the tutorial going with the Girl, little by little.

I wish you good luck with your projects. ^^

A pretty interesting concept with some poetics to it. I had a hard time telling what was actually going on and the game suffered from feature creep, which is very impressive in such a short game. The biggest drawback was the draw system, ripped straight from FF8 and not used very well and the combat system which was convoluted and slow. If these were polished and made a bit more unique the game could have a pretty good premise.

Thank you for your feedback. I pretty much lost focus on my original plan about a week in and it just got bloated. I will take your  feedback for future projects.

Jam Judge

Heya! Don't know if you saw this yet (been busy so I might have lost track), but we did a high level overview of your Game Jam entry last week. Here is a link to the video if you want to see what we have to say:

Please stop playing once you reach the 3rd save point. Anything after that may not be appropriate for young children.  Thank you all!

That´s a good disclosure to add hahaha.

I enjoyed the game, don´t feel bad  of what was said on the stream, that opinion does not define your game. But yeah, that part is definitively not for children.

Thanks, I will definitely learn from my mistakes in my second attempt at making a game. Getting someone to test play it before submitting will be first on the list...
