When I said public, I meant this. Like many game developers do. After a new update. Previous versions are released to the public, i.e. free of charge. But this game has been free for a long time only the same part. Other versions are not released to the public for free..!

So you don't mean "public", you mean "free". Game developers need to eat too, they need to pay bills. Getting your name out there only helps if everyone pays a little bit. Free is good up to a point, to give people a taste of what they'll be buying, but if no one buys then you've put in a lot of time and effort for no return. Which some people are fine with, but not everyone can afford.

i paid for the game, itch tells me "you own this game". i get no access to the current release, and i am now lead to believe in will never get access to any more of the game, despite "owning" it.
