good I really really hope for my sake and so so many others. Though this has damaged trust in sites and companies like itch and steam. Though I also understand they didn’t have much choice in the matter.
technically for both websites especially steam there is alternatives.
there's local banks in every country they could try to have instead of MasterCard and visa especially for example in my country of Denmark
our National Bank is prohibited from interfering with businesses and refused business to anyone if they are not doing something illegal, meaning if steam really wanted to?
they could try to localize for every steam user so they use then national bank, so I'm Danish. if I try to buy something on steam? I have to go through the Danish national bank
and if someone from Germany tries to buy something on steam? they will have to go through the German national bank and so on and so forth
that way no single bank has a lot of power, even if they tried to enforce some opinion or view
but yeah that would require a lot of work....
