Artistic Statement / Use of Theme
The project was inspired by our personal experiences with the 2025 California Wildfires as well as our research into wildfire containment and prevention methods.

Development Summary
Our team started with a light brainstorming session about the types of games we wanted to make. We quickly discovered wildfires as an interesting concept, as many of us were in Southern California when the wildfires happened and disrupted the lives of people around us. Our team moved very fast, and surprisingly most of the original design stayed intact; things that were cut due to scope were mainly art-related, such as having different animals affected by wildfires be firefighters instead of just cats.

Release Plan
Currently the game is fully playable from start to finish and has a fully functional game loop. In the future, we would like to add more levels, new abilities, and better tutorial, although we aren’t sure if we will be working on this project in the future.

I had a blast playing Purr Force: Scratch & Rescue; the art style, music and sound effects are so polished that you really feel like part of a squad of cat firefighters, and the constant push‑and‑pull of charging abilities while the fire spreads kept me glued to the screen. I did find myself guessing at what some powers actually did because there isn’t a hands‑on tutorial, so adding a quick practice round would make it easier to dive in without fumbling around. All in all it’s a super fun prototype with a ton of potential and I can’t wait to see more levels and maybe a little story in the future!

I really liked the aesthetics of the game, from the art style to the sounds to the music; it felt very polished and was very captivating. Gameplay-wise, too I was super engaged with it, and I had fun. The mechanic of having to wait for your abilities to charge while the fire itself spreads is an effective way to keep the player engaged at all times. There is little to no downtime, and you're purely focused on figuring out what the best method is to put out the fire; it's very effective. The main issue is that I had trouble figuring out what each item/ability did. I think the game is lacking a kind of buffer phase so the player can learn their abilities prior to actually playing. Perhaps a more fleshed out tutorial would help with this issue. I think overall, however, this is a very good game and I'd love to see it fully realised in the future, good job!

I really do love the aesthetics of the game, as well as the general idea for it. The gameplay itself is also fun, the prep phase, followed by the slow burn of the entire map in the action phase, is paced well. I do have a few problems as well, The tutorial could've been more fleshed out, namely because it took me multiple tries to figure out how to even use the abilities, I was spamming the firefighters button waiting for them to spawn automatically, and while my paw energy kept lowering, none spawned since I never clicked on a tile on the board.

This is a really neat game! I think the aesthetics, music, art, and tile-based gameplay complement each other very well. The gameplay concept itself is also really interesting, and I think it works well in scope and execution. The animations for each ability are very cool as well and I appreciate the level of polish that went into this game. Although I appreciate the connection to the California Wildfires, I would have liked to see more of this connection/theme exploration in-game. If you guys keep working on this game, I'd recommend adding a short narrative with a few levels that have different sizes or tree/smoke placements for some variety. Great work!

I love the art style and theme you chose! This game has a very fun and unique style, which is great for all ages! I did get a little bit confused on some of the controls, especially the kitties and the fire extinguisher. I couldn't figure out how to use them. I feel like if there were a small tutorial level where the controls are explained and guided, I would have had an easier time. Overall, I enjoyed the game and did beat it! Great job!!

Thank you for the feedback! I made some changes in the description so hopefully the abilities make more sense now! Thanks for playing!
