ROMEO AND ALFREDO IS CANON ROMEO AND ALFREDO IS CANON ROMEO AND ALFREDO IS CANON, after this game, which is also 100% canon, they kiss and marry!!!
if I say it enough times it becomes truth (and also the the director basically confirmed it!!!)
(Thank you for giving me the opportunity to contribute to such a lovely project!)
More seriously, this was an incredibly sweet game, brimming with tenderness and love for both the characters and the original work. Even though I haven't watched the original show, I wasn't confused by the script and the emotions and personalities of the characters were well-conveyed. The voice actress did a fantastic job with the emotions of the characters, and also convincingly played Romeo and Alfredo very differently (with Romeo feeling more bright, upbeat, and youthful, and Alfredo feeling more calm and mature). And the music track is well chosen, with its bright orchestral sound - I don't usually comment on SFX but I particularly liked the usage here under the strict SFX limit. It's a "metaphorical" sound, rather than a literal one, that works well to make the game more immersive.
The art is absolutely gorgeous - not only does Romeo look positively adorable, but it also does a very good job of mimicking the facial proportions and overall style of the original anime. The blue skies behind Romeo are particularly noteworthy, with their bright, saturated colors and painterly brushstrokes - they really are as much of a centerpiece of the game as Romeo is. The game also makes deft use of various techniques - differently positioned text, color matrices, ATL - to make the experience very dynamic, it's very polished overall.
===SPOILERS===
Alfredo's sentiments towards Romeo are INCREDIBLY ROMANTIC and very touching - moreso than simply "feeling love for him," Romeo represents a brighter future for Alfredo - a kinder, more righteous future. Romeo is Alfredo's partner and his hope - and, knowing that he won't survive, Alfredo leaves his dreams in Romeo's hands. The line "[I would have loved to live in] A world, where all the men were Romeos" is a truly touching one, and PEAK ROMANCE. There's a heartwrenching melancholy to Alfredo's feelings - sadness at knowing that he won't be able to see the blue skies that Romeo will bring, and happiness knowing that it's not a matter of if, but when - Romeo will change the world. You can really feel Alfredo's deep love for Romeo - his blue sky.
(Honestly after playing this game, I really want to check out the original anime, so the game did its job!!)
Fantastic work!!
