Well I wasn't sure how I did it but I cleared all the waves and made it to the very truthful ending. I don't know how I actually upgraded the guns but I somehow got the red one fast firing and able to hit all the whale colors. With the somewhat complicated controls some in-game guidance would be really nice to see.
