I am very much enjoying the game so far...

However, Is it just me or does the scarlet law (the law in game, not the game itself) seem _incredibly stupid_ ?!?

You can treat the slaves however you want, even beating or kiling them.
And if the slaves try to kill their owners, they are magically killed...
This is just stupid!

A country with an actual system of slavery would still need to have minimum standards of treatment, otherwise you'd have a LOT more then a few of the women rebelling.

Oh and remember magic can be learned or taught, so it's inevatable that strong mages would pop up in both groups!

The MC's entire premise for getting off his ass is to keep his 'landlady' and 'roommate' with him, so I think if he'd failed, that'd be more then enough motivation to start killing the existing owner that wasn't him, then the government officials, etc. that enabled that system!

Also... if the scarlet law is magic, why can't it just be dispelled by another magic user?

The princess explanation about why the scarlet law is needed was a pile of bullcrap!
Even with the whole magic motivation, it'd only lead to the decline of the female population and in time leaving mostly a male population!

I just can't reconcile my love of the characters, story and happenings with how dumb the entire slavery system is!

That said, I am very much looking forward to seeing how this story goes!

Keep up the good work! :-)

You forget about the fact that criminal act toward the slaves still counted to their criminal charges, and if their slave do criminal act the owner is the one responsible, so i think the dev at least try to balanced

Yeah but I think those are mundane laws and not part of the magic thing....

I'm not deriding the slavery system being a thing at all, but rather the scarlet law part of it.

Dragon, I must have missed something somewhere? Where does killing enter into it?

When the raid happens where they capture or kill all the rebels, you go and talk to the princess.

You also see flashbacks as part of the nun and her sisters history.
The bad guy in the flashback tells you that owners have the right to beat or kill their slaves.

This is reinforced by another character; I forget at this point who it was, but I remember it being one of the current authority people... maybe the princess.

Also when you talk to the princess she claims that the scarlet law is needed for the country, implying that she also agrees with the treatment part.

That must be farther on from where I'm at now. No sign of anything like that yet.

Ah well keep goin.
It's got lots of good things going on!

I just find the magic part to be kind of dumb.

It's also never defined how much of the scarlet law is magic and how much is mundane laws, so it gets confusing. :-s

I'm trying to figure out why Azula has a Scarlet Contract? That, and given her being a half-breed, how is Celestia walking around town with her head still attached to her neck?

(1 edit)

Since the scarlet law wasn't created by humans, I think it applies to EVERY female who's unmarried.
I'm pretty sure this also includes the princess, the half breeds and all vala.

Half breeds are distrusted to a massive degree, but are also known to be pets sometimes.
As the person up a bit said, the law protects your property from assault, as well as you being responsible for their behaviour.

So it's just: Are you willing to take the risk?
We, as the MC, are willing cause we like her.

At the beginning of the game, it states pretty empathically that half-breeds are to be killed on sight. Celestia's having possibly been someone's pet at one time indicates that she is likely a runaway, and being sought by her owner. She should be hiding, not blackmailing the MC. I would have told her 'Hey great, let's go see the Holy Knights together." and sat back to watch what happened next.
