(replying with my other account) Hi, currently each character has a set of unique skills that change how interactions work in a subtle way (e.g. Lacrima deals double damage to Barrier, Frida's Excel is always automatically amped...). There are also differences in health totals, meter length and barrier pips. While these differences are subtle, they add some complexity to the matchups (e.g. Frida always having Amped Excel makes it so that using Excel against her is more dangerous). I wish I could find some other way to make the characters more distinct without increasing the complexity too much :D
