According to the demo, dice are rolled with a success in the upper half. If all dice work this way, what is the difference between 2d6 and 2d8?

For skill checks and such, there is no functional difference.

Within combat, the highest single dice result from the success pool denotes the damage, so using a better weapon gives you bigger dice for your pool. Example: If you have 5 dice for your combat dice pool, you roll d4s if you're hitting with bare hands, but d10s if you have a two handed sword.
