I just played your demo and I have some questions!

Do you think you'll be able to add pronouns to the MC - considering we're not really "shown" and the name is already custom.

There's a huge line gap in the UI when there's dialogue, personally just me but I found it distracting.

The background art and key images are very different to the sprite models, are you planning on changing to something a little more cohesive. They look like real images of real places/items just blurred.

And lastly are you thinking of adding the game to steam, with achievements, in the future? even if you just added the paid NSFW version - I'd buy it there!

the devs already said MC is female for narrative reasons. not every game has to be customizable, sometimes a story is meant to be told from a specific perspective. you wouldn't ask a bl game to turn mc into a woman, right?

(+11)(-2)

Imagine saying someting like this on a BL game. Such a strange and disrespectful thing to say. It's an otome, it won't have any other pronouns unless the creator wants to add them.

(+6)(-6)

Funnily enough some people come into BL games and either ask for female romance options or a female MC. I think it's just as silly.

(+9)(-3)

It is silly, I agree. However, I've been seeing a very vocal minority asking for male MC under every new otome game I've checked out this year, which annoys me solely because otome isn't synonymous with dating simulator as many people think. It's a distinct genre just like BL, so equally disrespectful to be saying such a thing under a BL or Otome game <3

(+4)(-1)

Thank you! I was trying to say this and someone got so angry about it.

I love that it has a clear narrative and isn't trying to pander to both genders or content enjoyers of TL and BL. It's the only game that isn't customisable and these people get angry or continue to ask, as if the Dev can rewind all their progress and do it differently.

Asking for pronouns on a BL game is forcing a narrative and is so rude. I don't like BL content but I'd never expect or ask an author or creator of a game to make the ML/MC a female for me.

"Unless the creator wants to add them."

Which is why I was asking. It doesn't hurt anybody to ask, except you and your feelings. Getting annoyed over something that has nothing to do with you is completely asinine. It's not disrespectful to ask any sort of question? I wasn't asking maliciously. Sorry you're annoyed I guess?

And yes, people do ask for pronouns/custom MC in BL games. It actually happens in a lot of visual novels - it's not specific to otomes.

(+9)(-1)

Contrary to what you think, it really is disrespectful to go under a game tagged as an Otome and ask for a male protagonist. It shows your lack of comprehension ability and respect for what the Creator planned and intended.

It's much more encouraged to play something else with a male or gender-neutral protagonist if this is such an issue for you. Trust me, it's not a small category.

(-10)

Contrary to what you think, your opinions are not factual.

I never once said it was an issue in any of my comments.

(+7)(-1)

Considering the amount of dislikes your comment got, my "opinion" is considered a fact. I assume you're not the target audience of otomes, which is why you think it isn't disrespectful. But it is.

I'm not into arguing with walls though. Enjoy your day.

(-8)

The world is not ending over 8 dislikes. Plus you commented a day after I posted it. If it makes you feel better piggybacking off that, then good for you. Don't know what to tell ya.

I don't need your encouragements nor self insertion to tell me what I am the target audience of and what I should go and enjoy.
You have yourself a good day now too.

Guys, we truly appreciate all your perspectives and understand where you’re coming from so let’s please try to keep things chill. ❤️

We’re also a queer team, and it’s important for us to see ourselves represented in the games we create. That’s why we added pronoun and gender customization in our other romance VN The Winter Wedding. However, for How to Break Up with Your Yandere Boyfriend, some narrative themes made it more appropriate to tell the story specifically from a female perspective. That said, we know even among female players, not everyone will relate to the MC due to the heavy trauma in her past and how it shapes her choices.

Regarding the use of edited background photos, we currently don’t plan to replace them in future updates, except possibly for key images that hold more weight in the narrative. Fully illustrated backgrounds would significantly raise both the cost and development time, which would directly impact the game’s price. As a small indie team, we made this decision to move forward more efficiently and affordably. We hope to have a bigger budget for future projects to explore more options.

Lastly, yes, we’re planning to release the full game on both Itch and Steam, as long as no major platform issues arise.

Thank you so much for your understanding, support, and interest in our work! 💖

I think given the background of the MC, this was the right choice to tell this type of story. As a man if the MC was male, this would come off, dare I say unrealistic. Due to how men communicate with each other vs. Men and Women.

Our MC clearly lives in a world where her partner has a huge impact on her stability. You can tell by how she talks about her ex and her current boyfriend. A part of her issue is what he is not giving to her as opposed to how he would receive what she brings to the table. Both her boyfriends were very much had the role of being the provider in her relationships with them. While this would not be impossible with 2 men, it would read very differently.

I think people have it twisted, that asking is a bad thing - which it isn't. It's not taking anything away from them and it's not making it any less for them. Like you said, it's important for you to see yourself represented. This is a fictional scenario people may want to headcanon and immerse themselves in, myself included. It shouldn't matter to anyone but me how I see myself as the MC - regardless if it's a female lead or not.

It's totally fine about the backgrounds, understandable about development times and costs.

Steam release is exciting to hear though.
