Hey, we've seen this a request a few times. I'm curious, why would you want to use itch.io for chatting over all the other stuff that exists. Do you want to chat with people you already know, or are you interested in using it to meet new people to talk with? If you want to talk to people you don't know, are you looking to talk with other players of games, or talk with the developers? Thanks

I recently was wondering about this, and I think it would just be cool to meet and friend others with the similar interests when it comes to games :]

Basically like the way Steam has a friend system, but minus the part where steam friending has other benefits like doing games multiplayer or seeing what game the friend is currently playing

I also curious

If you already have a site forum, profile pages, project comments, project forums, etc I don't see why some sort of private messaging is off the table

Wow big necro... I think one of the reasons they are reluctant about a PM system is that it can open the door to harassment/scamming/other unwanted contact. Right now everything users do on here is public, except for reviews I guess (but those can only be done once per game I assume?). That makes it easier for moderation purposes.

Still, I would prefer to have the ability to direct message, so that I could contact people without them having to provide an email address, discord name, etc. (And without having to post on some random page of theirs where what I want to say isn't exactly relevant to the page itself)

Would love it too but I can appreciate the potential downsides to this.

I'd like the option to be able to discuss itch related stuff (game jams, games etc) here on the platform they are available. Honestly, I am sick to the back teeth of being shoehorned over to Discord for any type of communication.

I like itch and I feel right at home here, I love the simplicity of building content and it's fun too with a largely good community whereas Discord has always made me feel uncomfortable. It's like the online equivalent of walking into a bar you don't know and everyone stops their conversations, turns round and gawks at you.
