funnily, the original idea has a progression upgrade each night (flashlight, shovel, detector) to help with the difficulty increase. i also had another enemy (zombie) and a crossbow, but all of that had to be cut down (plus other feature like stamina for sprinting). 
and i do agree that some kind of tutorial/instruction would be great, but i ran out of time to do any of that.

Yep the usual game jam black hole of ideas! I had the same issue (and have with all my jam games). Great job anyway!
