I managed to beat normal mode and crab rave. But I'm not sure if there is some strategy or it's just about luck. I really liked how the shader tied the art style together.
You can use luck to win everything up to and including Crab Rave, but after that you really start to have to use proper strategy to win. You can also win the earlier levels more reliably (almost every time) if you use good strategy.
