I'll take this on board, but the intention was to make it clear that Dave was trying to actively preempt these things from happening. Therefore, for it to be fair, the password would need to be available before the "bad end". Also, like last time, the password was also in the bad end to reinforce it.
Otherwise yes, this is a point of divergence and both routes continue the story.
