What are you downloading and from where?

What platform, Linux, Android, Mac, Windows?

What exactly is the message when download fails? Copy and paste it or show screenshot.

I was trying the most recent PC version of this game and about halfway through it stopped and the message that showed up in the Download list was 4426675-archive-default.xml and beneath it, it says couldn't download - no permission

Are you sure there is free space on the device for the download? It is 12 GBytes.

That message seems like coming from your PC, not a problem with the file server you download from. So examine your PC and the directory where the download goes.

You still have not revealed where you are downloading from. The Itch.io site or the mirror?

I have plenty of space on my Android device, but it stops in the middle of a download and I need to start over

It shows waiting for a data connection
