Thank you for the comment and for playing! Indeed they only explode when connected to the source plug. But you can always remove your own pylons if you get trapped or a misplacement by pressing F on keyboard or Cancel button (O or B) on gamepads.
I totally did not see that in the description/bottom right of the game, I kept thinking that'd be player 2's control, oops! Thank you!
