The game turned out really well and seems highly polished, with the exception of balance that you mentioned. I think as a quick fix you could skew the distribution of tiles towards more open sides or, possibly better, give the player more tiles to choose from.

Thanks for your feedback. The distribution is already moved to having an increased number of tiles with more open sides (doors), but maybe we should increase it even more.

Giving the player more tiles to choose from was never really an option. We somehow stick to the 3 tiles from the start. Definitely something we should think about.

However, making these changes could make the game very easy very fast. Balancing is always a very tricky topic.

We were thinking about having some kind of bad, luck protection for the player, that after some time gives him better fitting tiles. But the time was too short to implement this mechanic.

My thought was that even when the basic game gets easy it still gets harder over time because of the increasing number of mites. It may shift the game focus a bit, from trying to build a path towards avoiding mites.
