First time making a game with Godot. Was regretting during the first day, for not learning it before joining the game jam. Luckily, it doesn't have a high learning curve and managed to get used to it on the 2nd day.

This is also the first time that I created some pixel art for a game. The pixel art course from the GameDev.tv, actually did help me in creating sprites that are not so ugly.

Initially planned to do a 5x5 board, but reduced to 4x4 board due to time and idea constraints.

The duration given for this game jam is very suitable for me. I get to utilize the first 2 weekends to create majority of the game mechanics. The weekdays to design and plan for the puzzles while communing to and back from work, and then implement that puzzle at night. The final 2 weekends to finish up the game states, dialog, audio and publishing. Totally enjoyed this game jam.

While its a simple one, I do hope people will be enjoying this game!

Edit:

Forgot to add the link to my game.

Love the music and the idea, will try to beat it when I'll finish my game :) I think there is a bug where, if the player clicks two movement keys at the same time, map blocks are switching places (guessing it isn't part of mechanic).

Oh wow, thanks for trying the game and the bug report! Will try to fix it!

That's funny about learning godot because I too, was using godot at first too for my game and then I switched over to ren'py (since I was making a VN it made sense) on like day 6 so I understand that LOL

I'm excited to hear the pixel art course helped you because it's the one I want to get for participating in this jam!  That's so exciting and your sprites are adorable!

Edit to add:

Love your game! What an amazing idea. It reminded me of those little plastic puzzle games we had as a kid. That's such a cool idea. Great job! My daughter loved it too. :)

Haha ya, my brain kept trying to make me jump back to Unity, which I'm more familiar with.

Godot is surprisingly easy to learn, but I feel that its harder to make a much bigger game without more knowledge and experience with the engine.

Hope you enjoy the course later, it was quite useful for a complete beginner like me. The environment and character sprites actually belong to cupnooble. Thanks to that, I was able to put less worries on the art and able to plan my puzzle properly.

Thank you for compliments, I'm glad that you and your daughter enjoyed it :D.

The idea was inspired from Patrick's Parabox

Wow very cool idea with the slide puzzle mechanic! The music track fit well with the mood of trying to solve the puzzle and I felt really happy playing this game. I am going to return to it later to complete the puzzle. I also like your pixel art you created :D

Haha thanks! My friend said the same thing about being happy. Funny enough, the music title is Happy Sunny Days. Kudo to the original composer!
