Description
Continuing on with the NES soundchip project and trying to work within those limited constraints. I focused around designing the thunder/lightning noise and using that as a big boom to center everything else around. The noise channel then goes quiet to represent the pitter-patter of rainfall and the emotion of the rain I tried to carry with the delayed square wave. I escalate the emotion throughout the piece with the triangle/bass channel and noise, giving more crashes as it progresses.

You can't fool me, that's a clear 7/8 time signature ;)

I love those arpeggio's (is that the noise?), it really sounds like rain! And the strong drum-noise is great for thunder too. That pulsating bass vibe (square wave?) in the background really helps too. I think this is a great track for some "QUICK, GET OUT OF THE RAIN" vibe! Really love this :D

Can't beat that NES noise channel and I think you made a good decision centering the noise compositionally, it definitely ties things together. Not sure how much control you have the amplitude of the rain sounds (I think that's the square wave), but it got a little bit taxing for me and wondered if there was a way to give it more of an ebb and flow :) really nice work!

thank you! Definitely have more control. I did some very light fading throughout each arpeggio but could have more modulation for sure! Thanks for the feedback!

haha this one definitely has the energy of the chaos of being in the middle of a storm. super busy bass/kick thing almost like one of those 808 basslines, i like that. That little decrescendo/empty pause into the bang near the end of the (loop? track?) is very much the impression of a thunder strike

nice, thank you! I’m glad the thunder sound design came through for you!
