Congrats on the game! Really well done for 3 hours :)

This is a really cool game! I like the message behind it and how if you get a high enough score, you just get bombarded with rubbish. I found that really funny!

Something to note if you do improve it is that I found it a little hard at first to tell what was rubbish and what wasn't but after a few seconds I realised. If you do add to this, I feel like a quick guide to what is and isn't rubbish wound be useful.

But apart from that tiny nit-pick, it's absolutely great! Another thing that I really liked was the gravity and how it really felt natural in terms of movement! I thought that was really cool! Well done!

You know, this is a quaint little game - and I'd say you're on the right track to deliver a great message with this game! Let's go over the positives first:

1) Neat art here! It's not the best, not as cohesive, but it works to sell what you're trying to tell and it's good enough to look at. Worth commending! The sound also blends in well enough but a bit of ambient music such as bubbles, or waves will sell the mood so much more. Definitely recommend that.

2) Great storytelling with games as a medium. I personally like your score system - it helps guide the player to identify the food stuff and avoid junk - and also invariably sell the message of the infinite junk via the idea of seeing your score plummet to negative infinity. You've done good here - I like!

Some other qualms that I have with the game are:

1) The controls are very, very wonky. 'Jumping' feels very floaty and left and right has a lot of drag to it which makes it feel like you're sliding on ice. I think you could benefit just from having the fish accelerate to max speed faster when you're moving left and right - and make your 'jumping' accelerate faster on initial spacebar. I think you were going for the similar swim function found in mario games - which can work, you just need to implement it better really.

But honestly, great game. I think you did good here. And for something done in 3 hours, this is quite impressive, being able to fit in all the story as well as the art, and gameplay. Nice!

Interesting concept, after the fish died, some food kept falling on it and the score went back up, no clue if that's intentional or not

Developer

Well, it was intentional, to represent how the junk keep hurting and hurting the fish. Maybe at that moment I should have removed the score, but it was intentional. Thanks for your message!

Poor fishes, I think I prefer the ending rivten posted with the perfect gap on the side, it gives me hope haha. Great Idea, I believe we need to keep pushing awareness and this was a good demonstration for it.

Developer

I prefer that ending too, is happier!

Nice use of theme! And the ending was good too.

I think it would be better if the player could move vertically rather than jumping.
And you could separate the score and the health.

Yeah, I decided to attach the score to life because at certain moment you get food, two things happens through score:

First, one of the two types of food disappears.

And last, once you keep scoring, all the food disappears, and the only thing your score will do is disappear. Tried to make that a part of the message. Thanks for your opinion!

Pretty cool :) I don't know if it's on purpose or not but I could stand at the far right in the end and not get touched, therefore not triggering the final message ! Also I mostly stayed on the bottom because the experience was smoother than jumping with space.

Still, congrats for making this entry :) I had a fun time !

Developer

Well, that was clearly not on purpose hahaha. Guess I have some things to fix!

Thanks for your comment! I'm glad to hear you had a fun time, I wanted to redact a bettter final message, but well haha
