I found all the endings! Very nice job on the experience, it kept me playing until I found all of them.
Great implementation of the "Someone is guiding you" theme! The option to choose your guide, also very unique.
The boat sprite flipping is hilarious :D
There are lots of little bugs, but its all stuff that you will find easier to do as you practice.
Great game!
Thank you very much ! Glad you enjoyed it ! :)
I think I found all the endings (good, bad, and secret)? I like the idea of the two different mermaid guides with their different advice. This was a great short and sweet execution of that concept, with the only thing really missing being sound.
I found the ship motion to be very funny. The way it goes upsidedown is perfect and iconic. I don't know if it is so silly on purpose, but for a Trijam game where everything must be made quickly it really works to add a little fun to the game feel.
Once I figured out shooting the cannon, it was easy to crush my enemies. Without sound and with the camera so close I would often kill things without seeing them, and I only knew I'd shot something because I'd already seen what enemies should spawn where. Sound would help the player understand what is happening when shooting enemies offscreen.
The hit boxes don't quite match the visuals, which is common in games made quickly. It becomes part of the player learning curve and expectation, in this style of game. The gameplay loop was fast enough that if I died to a spike that had a bigger hitbox than I thought, it didn't interrupt my play because I could immediately return to it and know to give it a bit more clearance.
All together I think this is a great submission!
Thank you very much! I admit I tend to forget completely my works doesn't have any sound design whatsoever, as I work with my girlfriend and with music blasting in my ears ahah. I'll try and find some sound effects I can use to add more depth to it.
Anyways, glad you enjoyed my silly little project ! :)
Ok, I tried A LOT this prototype (too much for the free time I have… hehe). The visuals are fantastic!! I’ve found one? bad ending and the secret ending. I couldn’t pass the tentacles, for me it´s almost impossible (one or two, ok, but the 3rd always catch me), so I think I missed the good ending.
Te colliders of the reefs are too high, and the ship control needs a bit more polishing. The premise is interesting, and the game is funny, but the controls are complicated and the enemies extremely difficult. The game is frustrating, but it´s short enough to start over again and again hehe. Also, the prototype needs a lot music and SFX to be mooore fun.
Congratulations!!
Thanks for your feedback ! I'll definitely see what I can do for the hitboxes, it was also a problem during dev time that I encountered but couldn't fix with the little amount of time and knowledge I had. Now that I have more free time, I'll see what can be done and do some slight tweaks to them, as well as some sound effects!
Glad you enjoyed my prototype !
