Correlation to theme
I went for music that had a strong sense of place, be it a quiet town with curious fireflies or a busy city with a solar-powered transit system.

Photosynthesis City: Right away, the bass line uses blue notes that add color and flare to the city scene you are painting. The guitar that adds in adds a fun-ness and excitement that makes this track a “city” theme rather than a “town” or “village” theme. I like the flute melody when it comes in - giving context to the unique bassline.

Firefly Town: I like the bells sound you use- it definitely adds to the sense of place that you were striving for. I am imagining a small dark village like a Sleepy Hollow with many twinkling firefly lights. The flutes and strings make a sound that is round and comfortable. The kick drum adds an interesting rigidity to the otherwise laid-back rocking feel, but I think that it is functioning kind of like a softer snare drum would- allowing it to be like a night time march.

Overall I think that you achieved your goal of making tunes with a strong sense of place. While there are some dissonances here or there, the overall feel of the pieces really helped me imagine the towns/cities you were writing for. Good work and thank you for sharing!

Phew, a lot to unpack! Let's dive in.
First, for Photosynthesis, I have to admit I don't like that Bassoon. I don't know if it is dissonant with the rest of the melody or not, but it just makes the whole thing sound a bit worse. I like the addition of the flute at 0:51 though! It adds some freshness to it, and the melody is nice.
What is happening between 1:23 and 1:28 though? I know: the beat becomes a quick 1-2 with the main beat lying on the off-beat. However, everyone's ear will forget that first off-beat and move their focus to those main beats (especially since there is no melody or anything to guide you), which makes 1:28 sound off-beat while it is not! I don't know if this is intended or accidental, but... it is definitely confusing xD
Oh, and nice whistles at 1:43. With no bassoon, I like that part the best I think. Overall, nice entry! It has a lot of potential, but I don't really hear a photosynthesis city in it, and I think the mastering (instruments) could use a bit of work.

I like the Firefly city way more! It is nice in 3/4, though the bells try to make it 4/4. While I have been annoyed by that some time, I don't mind it here at all! There is no instrument that annoys me, I can definitely hear the nice 'evening-like' firefly town, using the bells, violins, piano and mainly the.. cello? I always get my instruments mixed up xD. I feel like (but cannot guarantee!) this song might even benefit from a subtle or perhaps even non-existent beat, for extra calmth.

Overall, great job! I will rate you mostly for firefly city, as I liked that the most. I hope my comment is of use and doesn't sound too mean - I don't intend it as such :)

PS: I KNEW IT WAS MADE IN MUSESCORE! Upon hearing that flute go a bit low in Photosynthesis, I knew it. Musescore just has too recognizable a sound-palette xD
