Which Theme from the list did you choose to implement in your game?

Witching Hour

How did you choose to implement your chosen Theme in your game?
I initially had a whole story based around the witch revealing herself to you after a while - late at night deep in the woods. I ran out of time to implement the story so this ended up being more of a demo but you still fight her in the end.

Did you implement any of the optional Bonus Challenges, and if so, which ones?
Witchcraft - The player casts spells for combat
Not What It Seems - the witch asks you for help saving her daughter before revealing herself

I had some navigational issues, at the beginning of the forest i followed what seemed to be a path but ended up in the graveyard and i couldn't figure out what to do there, so i walked along the edges till i found the path to the goblins, it was a little tricky to find, then i killed all the goblins then i brought them all back to life , went back to the graveyard, point being i could have used a little more direction, maybe some hints written on the graves stones.

really liked the art style, the forest's tree texture was great and the swaying hair of the witch as she walked away from you was such a nice piece. And i really liked the magic being taken from flowers that was such a witchy touch.

This is nice start to a cool little RPG! I liked sucking the life out of plants for mana and health! And then raising the dead! Those goblins didn’t know what hit them! The sound and choice of music is good too. you even have a fancy credits scene at the end. Bravo!

I half expected to be able to raise dead people in the graveyard. That could have been cool!

So, if my character is a necromancer, doesn’t that mean they’re the baddy? Just thinking out loud.

Anyway, I would have liked to have been able to shoot in any direction. I had to use the mouse buttons to cast spells and interact with npcs. Why not use the mouse position to shoot to? But if you don’t do that, then you could support a gamepad and ditch the pesky mouse all together.

Oh, and supporting arrows keys would have been cool seeing that some people are left handed. Not that I gave you all 1 stars for that or anything. (Joking! I would never do that!)

Anyway, hopefully you’ll continue on your quest of making all of those things you didn’t have time to put into the game.

We’re still working on our game too. Got a few fixes for after the jam. Would you be so kind to play our current version and let us know what you think? Thanks!

Nice job with this --  I played to the end and enjoyed it.  I liked your concept with the three spells and the reviving of enemies to join your side, and the spells worked well.  The revived enemies carried out their missions, which is a very cool mechanic.  The meters worked nicely and the flower functions were good, too.  The music was nicely chosen throughout.  The game made me want to keep going when I died, which is great.

Some feedback I hope is helpful:  (1) I almost gave up playing the game without finding the area with the goblins, because I walked past the entrance to that area several times without realizing it was an entrance.  Perhaps using a more clear dirt path there, or using a different sprite for entrances to new screens (to distinguish from tree-walls), might be helpful.  (2) The rapid fire of the archers in cardinal directions pushed me to approach them on an angle.  I noticed that when I slowly approached them closely on a diagonal, they exited combat mode (stopped shooting arrows and wandered off), which allowed me to attack.  So the AI may need a tweak there.  (3) I was occasionally seeing lines between the tiles.

I had fun with this, nice work!

Really nice pixel arts and environment you laid out, I found the spell system a little confusing (although I confess did not read instructions first). Once I did I could navigate and drain flowers and also do fireballs - the fire balls seemed quite limited in direction?

Didn't get round to raising the dead after seeing the camp I can see could be useful to make some allies. I did try it at the graveyard but to no avail - that part felt like a missed opportunity for perhaps a tutorial.

I may go back for another go as am curious about the Witch aspect and fight.
