Using Fennel with Defold - licensing issues?

Hi everyone, very exciting to be joining the jam this year.

I've god a nice workflow going with Fennel and the Defold engine, which is "source available", with an Apache-derived license, but isn't technically open source. Would it be within the rules to use it?

More details on their license here: https://defold.com/license/

Guess it depends which parts of Defold are closed-source. Is it the authoring environment, or is it part of the runtime dependencies? That is to say, can you use Defold to make a game whose executable is released under an OSI-approved license with all the rights that license grants, or not?

From my reading of their terms, it looks like any work created with Defold has to be distributed with the Defold license, which is not an OSI-approved license. So it looks like a no-go for the game jam, and I'll have a look at using Fennel with Love instead.

Defold license is basically Apache + extra, where this extra is basically “hey you can’t sell this engine”. IIRC this was a condition in order to Defold be independent from King.
