I'm not sure this really counts as a visual novel as such because it's more like the sort of games Supermassive make, at least that's what this reminded me of (and they make some of my favourite games, so I mean that in a good way :D) I don't actually know what people call those kinds of games, but they're my favourite kind, even more so than VNs, haha. I would guess just interactive fiction, but when I look online it says "Interactive drama survival horror" which makes sense! Anyways, this reminded me of the Dark Pictures Anthology games that they make :3

I like reading VNs and I love making them, but I wish I could make something more like this where it's 3D and you can actually control your characters. I just have no idea how >.<

Yesss, I don't know either if this counts as a visual novel. When the project was about halfway done, I realized they're usually in a 2D style! :)

Ooh if you want to make something in 3D, just start small! Choose any engine (I would recommend Unity, since it has a large community) and experiment with some small prototypes. Give it some time and I'm sure you can make anything you want in 3D as well! :D

3D games are hard--there's such a wide Uncanny Valley where things look good but not quite good enough, and unfortunately I think this falls into that. The lack of expression on the models and the voice acting (I actually thought it was a computer-generated voice) did give the characters a sort of strange feel. I really wanted a Skip button for dialogue and a faster walk (nothing personal, I've played 40 games so far, I've skipped a lot of dialogue), and the bouncing walk camera made me nauseous. That said, I can tell you put a ton of work into this game--the environments look really good, and I think the model designs are good as well. I think it's 90% of the way there, but the other 10% is everything.

Love the game, fun that the choices that you made had a little effect on the ending! The first jumpscare scared the shit out of me :D

Plays like out like a movie or one of those old FMV games, with some decent direction. Voice acting kind of intrusive. Camerawork is probably the highlight.

I will also admit to getting got by the jumpscare.

Hahaa you're so true about the voice acting! It was an experiment, but the next time I should ask other people to act, because this is just me with heavy processing :D
