I enjoyed being chased by a gaseous nebulous nightmare being and would do so again. Good survival  horror mechanics for a first try! I think that the best steps forward would be polishing by creating more cluttered, realistic interiors and also thinking about the layout of a level and how a player can navigate it when being chased, giving enough options/exits to keep it easy but tense.

Thanks for submitting The Nightmare to the SCREAM MACHINE jam!

OMG Thanks soo much for playing my game :3

This game scared me because it's so dark and the entity thing is very persistent. I got two keys and then was unsure where to go. A quick quest objective hint would be helpful. Overall I liked the game a lot.

This was a neat game! Fantastic for being your first jam entry. Solid mechanics, I didn't run into any bugs. I would highly suggest a light toggle button instead of holding for darkness. I spent the majority of the game in the dark, so I was just playing with my mouse clicked in the whole time. The search mechanic was cool, the hold was more suspenseful than a quick tap, and the rummaging sound effect was a nice touch, too!

That was cool.  The music especially makes it very tense and eerie.  Loved the PS4 console in the 1st room.

*Spoiler ahead*

Got the bathroom key, and then key to room,  Did not get any further, as I was unsure how to avoid "it".  Tried hiding with light off, tried shining light at it.  It would even follow me through walls so not sure how to avoid it at all.  Tried sprinting away from it, but again, it was like once it saw you there is no escape from it, or was I missing something.

Despite not reaching the end, I did enjoy the premise and the mood was pulled of flawlessly.  I was really scared of that thing.

Good entry

You can escape from it but i think i made it too hard to escape

If you shine the light at all when you're too near to it, it'll lock on until it kills you. But as long as you're in darkness, or use your light a distance away, it seems to just move at random. It's pretty easy to avoid if you use the light very sparingly.
