The story felt a bit off and the dialogue didn't help.

The hundred desk workers used for everything was just a bit odd. They also repeat their lines regardless of which direction you go from. A lot of events don't check for direction so you have things like your character transferring maps looking one way and saying "go that way!" when the direction they are facing is the wrong way. Or talking to an NPC while looking the wrong way or w/e.

You can't go back to previous areas, including doors, but you can interact and open them.

Waiting in the chair looks unnaturally because you never face forward and can never face forward with keyboard controls or mouse controls.

Those egg chairs are really bad to use as chairs because they look unnatural to sit in from the sides. You can sort of fix this better for front and rear facing, but for sides, you need to do extra work.

Why is there a bedroom just out in the open with a bed and toilet and nothing for privacy? And where did all the other passengers go?

Pri just teleports when she joins instead of making it look natural.

The extinguishers are one use? But if you interact with the non-extinguishable fires, they make a sound and disappear for a moment?

Encounters are a bit high. Also, Sandworms don't give you anywhere near enough rewards for how annoying they are to fight.

Looks like Pri just gave up on warning you about construction zones. You know, given that we already have monsters wandering about anyways...

Boss was beatable at about level 5, but definitely annoying. Super Potions are overkill since you don't have anywhere near that much health at that point.

Hydra was still alive after I killed it?

Is the browser version different from the windows version? Because I didn't get the same last line as Drifty.

A decent game that is enjoyable up until the last portion where I had to grind 20 minutes just to be able to get decent moves and fight the final boss. Other than that I had no giant problems. The story was short but lacked direction with both characters and plot.

  • Pros
    • Good use of the default RPG Maker Assets.
    • Little to no bugs.
    • Very balanced battles, not one battle was unfair.
    • No need to grind except for the final battle.
    • The puzzles where fun but in the last one you could soft lock yourself if failed.
  • Cons
    • The characters, story and plot was lacking. I thought you would do something more with them but nothing happened. You could have easily had no dialogue and nothing would have changed.
    • Intelligible but was hard to read at times due to grammar mistakes.
    • No custom skills that could have improved battles.

Thanks for trying it. I wanted to do more custom things but i had no more time.

The writing is poorly done and there are several grammatical issues.  The maps are really weird and have too much open space in general. I haven't actually seen anything custom, this game is pretty much all default assets.

The game runs in the browser which some people will like and some will not. I don't really care either way, but if given the choice I would choose to download it.

The battle system is pretty lame, just default MZ side view. No custom skills, no custom animations, just basic attack and the built in stuff.

The encounter rate is a little high, but the battles are actually balanced decently. Nothing feels too hard or too easy. I mean the enemies are a little easy, but for a game jam entry you want them to be more on the easy side.

I like the binary puzzle. Simple if you know binary but this will have some people googling for sure, hehe.

The drop rate on items feels about right and really saves this game, without that being just right, and having no 'heal spots' sprinkled through-out the journey, you would encounter a huge issue. Luckily you tend to get the items you need on time.

Consider giving the melee guy an MP move, also the caster girl a TP move that restores MP.

I wouldn't have SyrupHouse do any more dialogs for you, it was a mess of a story and the writing was the absolute worst. You would have better luck writing it yourself and google auto-translating it.

Here are the final lines of the game, and I quote, "It seems that we are found the guilty of this massacre. It will be better that we were prepared to worse."

Overall you did a good job of submitting a game to the jam, so congratulations. I'm sure you've made some skill improvements along the way and that's what this is really about. Keep making games and try to write your own dialog next time. It's bound to be better.

Thanks for trying it. The story is incomplete due to lack of time. I'll try to do better next time.

Alright, this feels like a first RPG Maker game. If so, good job and I hope you continue to improve. Honestly, this was enjoyable for what it is. Here's my commentary on the different aspects of the game. There's quite a few problems I have, but don't let it discourage you:

1) I'm not sure why the main character is named Reid when he doesn't use the Reid sprite (the sprite he uses is the Sci-fi version of Albert). This doesn't really matter, but with Priscilla using her actual character model and being the only other party member, it feels like a strange choice, since it looks like you were going for some kind of "the default MZ heroes team up" kind of story. I guess you wanted to differentiate the characters more, since the actual Reid sprite wears a similar outfit to Priscilla?

2) Combat is basic RPG Maker style, just using the Time Progress option and Reid and Priscilla both have default database classes with default skills. I think there should've been more customization on that part, especially since this is a sci-fi setting. I can go with Priscilla being a Sorcerer with fire spells, but Reid using medieval swords despite supposedly being a rock star just seems out of place. Maybe if it was explained somehow just how it fits into the setting or if he used some sci-fi looking sword, it would be fine, but not like this.

However, the actual combat balance if pretty good. It's neither too hard, nor too easy. That's a pretty hard thing to pull off. Good job on that part!

3) The maps are serviceable, but nothing really stands out, except maybe the "spaceship" map. Some of the maps also felt too empty and the piles of identical dead scientists in the moon domes didn't really add anything. I think there should've been more character variety in the corpses there, it just didn't look good like that. But it was a nice touch that interacting with one of them actually rewarded you with an item. The fact that Reid and Priscilla turn into robots when they go outside to represent spacesuits is a nice touch.

4) Music was RTP, which is fine, but I don't think Scene 1 really works as a map theme for the dangerous outdoor areas on the moon. Theme 6 might have been a better choice.

5) The story was... confusing.

SPOILERS:

Ok, so Reid had a successful career and decided to take a vacation at the moon. That's what the game tells you. The game description also tells you that he's a famous rock star. Might've been a good idea to mention that in the game too. He even meets a fan of his outside his house. Despite the fact that he's a celebrity, the game also talks about how space travel is now affordable to normal people and not super-rich ones only and Reid complains that the tickets were expensive. I guess he doesn't have much money despite that? I guess if he did, he would've actually bought some furniture for his house. Still, it doesn't feel right saying that space travel is now finally available to normal people, only to have the protagonist turn out to be some superstar.

Despite the fact that he's going to the moon, he heads to the airport to take an airship to the Moon. I think that should be spaceport and spaceship. Especially since Reid even calls it a spaceship in the intro.

Ok, so he boards the "airship", which is apparently piloted by Priscilla. After they get to the moon, Priscilla for some reason asks Reid if he wants to check out some other moon habitation domes, despite it being dangerous outside and Reid being a civilian. So you go there for some reason, only to find out it's been attacked and is on fire. Instead of going back the way you just entered and reporting this, you run through the burning building to "escape the fire" through a backdoor on the other side. Then you check out the other domes too, for some reason, on your own, only to find out they've also been attacked. Why is Reid going along with this? Shouldn't they get help?

In the end, you arrive to the last dome, only to find out that a Hydra has somehow been respondible for the destruction. How the hydra is commanding the random encounter enemies is anyone's guess, or if they are even related to one another. Anyway, you don't get any other context other than the Hydra being responsible for this and it's time for boss battle. You defeat the Hydra and then... roll credits, without anything else. As an ending, it feels pretty anticlimatic. There should be something between the end of the boss fight and the actual credits. Maybe what happened afterwards and if Reid actually got to enjoy the vacation he wanted.

The dialogues are also very awkward to read and sometimes it's not clear what the characters are actually saying because of the word choices and sentence structure. English seems to be your second language, which is understandable, but it doesn't help in conveying the story you want. A line like "It seems that we are found the guilty of this massacre" means something entirely different than what you've likely intended.

Overall, it was an ok game. Not great, not terrible, just ok. But it wasn't a chore to play through and it was enjoyable. Even the dialogue, even if unintentionally so in certain parts. If anything, I think its biggest weakness is that it doesn't try to do more than the basics. Still, good job on finishing a game in time!

Thank you, for trying it. It's my second rpg maker game.
I had the feeling it was good but I could have done better but, firstly I haven't had enough time because I started doing it in the middle of the jam, and second because I'm a programmer and I failed in some other areas.

1)I would have liked to customize the characters and other things of the engine but I did not have time

2) I'm glad you like the combat balance, it cost me testing.

3)I noticed that the maps are a bit empty, I have to improve the maps design. I'm glad you like the spacesuits.

4)I wanted to put something hard because he was rockstar but maybe it didn't suit it much

5)The story is half completed. The first part, until the Spaceship, is rewied by a native English writer, the other part no. It stayed half because didn't have enought time.

I knew there would be so much level in the Jam but I wanted to give it a try. I have also learned a lot.

Anyways, thank for your critical view, it will help me to improve the next time.

Thanks! these are all valid and helpful criticisms. I only was able to do editing for the first bit of the game. This is mostly due to me juggling a lot of things. ( House maintenance, smoke from wildfires, personal laziness, 3D models and writing for others.). I think that there is a nugget of something good here, and if reworked in a different engine with it's own art, I think it could be really good.
