Really good and fun! It's a neat concept.

Thanks!

I wasn't aware of the original Boulder Dash. Even though it's squares here, it looks very polished. I liked that you kept the collider visible, extremely functional (and also adds to the game's visuals in a way? I felt like a spy infiltrating somewhere, I don't know)

I blazed through the initial levels without paying much attention, but then level 6 forced me to understand the game's actual rules, which to me felt nice balancing actually lol

Movement wouldn't register sometimes, and caused me a few deaths, but it's fine

Made it with 13590 points and 24 deaths!

That's some good stuff right there! I liked how attention was paid to little details without losing scope of the jam timings. Little stuff like how the player square oscillates when you're trying to push against a wall, that's a super effective feedback. Also I'm stuck on lv 5 ;_; I'm gonna finish all of them today though ^^

Developer

Thank you! Best of luck with the remaining levels! :)

(let me know if you want a hint)

(I should maybe upload a playthrough for when people get stuck or something…)

This is a really interesting game.  I'm not sure if you planned to replace the squares with sprites, but it kind-of works as it is.  It has a very clean look and the game feels complete with animations, sound, effects all working together in a great way.  I did get stuck on level 8 at the end with the exploding box, but I loved the puzzle level design aspect.  The transition effect between levels looks cool too.  Amazing work in such a short time and starting late.

Developer

Thank you! Sorry you got stuck – did you get stuck at the first bomb or the second bomb in level 8?

It was the last one, right before the exit.  I couldn't seem to trigger it to drop and get far enough away in time.

Ah, I see. I need to put in a puzzle earlier for teaching that you can you can dig dirt from between two blocks, like this:

Ah, nice!  I didn't think about trying that.  Thanks!

Got through all levels now, thanks for the tip!

Really cool design and sounds… Controls a bit weird but you can get it after playing for a while (1-3 minutes). I like it :)

Thanks! If I do another game like this I will try to make the player movement feel more responsive. I need to have a good think about how to make that work with the game’s state management.

I’ll wait for it! :)

Good Job. Like the gameplay and difficult level of the game.  Movement felt a bit unresponsive sometimes when you had to do quick turnarounds. Took me a while to figure out what squares did what in the game. Made it with 27 deaths.

Developer

Nice! If I had it to do over, I would definitely handle player movement a bit differently; I agree it feels a bit clunky and requires practice to adjust to.
