  • A fun little game with a highly destructive sheep. Game felt fluid for the most part despite the hitching at the beginning on the web version. Rolling into fences and the wolf enemy was fun but felt a little too easy. Going of the games main inspiration a way to solve for the wolf being to easy to kill would be to put it in an invulnerable state until something is done to give the character the ability to kill it. The art was very charming and the sheep that fly away on little jet packs are adorable. The sounds and music where good. While the gameplay was fun alot of the levels felt too short or that the wolf could nearly instant kill one of the sheep at the start. Adding a longer level and maybe a slight bit of immunity to the wolves at the start may help. The GDD was lite but laid out the basics for the mechanics and art. The target audience is for kids but their is some gore when the sheep get caught so adding a toggle for blood and gore may be helpful for the younger audience. The GDD also doesnt mention any roadmap for future or current development. Overall a solid start, keep making cool games!

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
Yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
Yes

Summarise your game!
Ewe are the Weapon is a pun, first and foremost. You play as Ewe, a female sheep, and you can roll through rotting fences and even wolves to save your crying sistren from being decapitated. Navigate to the broken open fence to end a level, but be aware that fences broken, sheep saved, and wolves killed, not to mention time, all contribute to your score. Simple controls of WASD and Space (plus Enter to reset at the end), and controller might even work too (I don't remember; come one, it's 1:21am and I've been pulling late nights for two weeks!).

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
Obviously the title is a pun on the Theme, but way better because it's funny. I honestly couldn't stop laughing when I thought of the title. I am so smart, SMRT!
You don't even have to be a weapon, but if you want to score points, you better save your sheep sistren by launching your self into them and/or the wolf.
Sorry for the jank. It's sort of okay now that I exported in debug mode, but I couldn't export in release mode and my programmer fell asleep awhile ago, so you get what you get. Hopefully the personality shines through.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
I think the movement of Ewe feels pretty good, all things considered. I tried to "juice" it up with sound and whatnot, but again Godot's idea of sound exportation is a little sketchy. Maybe I should switch to Unity?
I think the impact of hitting stuff feels pretty good.
I wish I had more time to make more levels, but maybe this prototype will blossom into something brilliant in the future.
Also, don't blame my programmer for things that break. It's almost guaranteed to be my fault as I am a hobbyist and I don't know when to stop tinkering.

This is great. The sheep are adorable and the wolf is stylish. Breaking the fences was fun. I think it would have been nice to have the level end as soon as the wolf dies because after that it's just sort of boring mopping up. I liked the feeling of the combat but it was pretty easy to just spam space and the wolf could never recover enough to respond so some more depth in that mechanic would have made the game more exciting.

Really polished, from the first moment the game starts up, it feels really professional.  The sprites and sound effects are so cute. Even the title is cute. Congrats to your team for a really adorable and fun game.

It took me so many times to save the first sheep on level three!!! It was so difficult! It would be really good if you had a pause menu that let you restart or a restart button so I didn't have to feed my character to the wolves each time to restart. Eventually I did save it though! The game was really fun and it felt nice to move around, I think controller support would have been a godsent in a game like this where you need to hit fences at precise angles to push right through them, especially in the previously mention level three. Also the pixel art was very nice!

Very cute! The animations and art are superb! I would have liked a slightly more obvious indicator which fences are breakable and maybe a counter or minimap showing how many sheep to save. Overall really fun game though! Good job!

Developer

Thanks for the nice words and input.
It was supposed to be more maze like, so fences weren’t supposed to be too obvious, and be more like a discovery. Instead they just became an obstacle.
So goes a Game Jam. ;)

Maybe if we had a 3 hit health bar the wolf might be more difficult? :D I enjoy the art so much and the sounds, so well put together!! It was a little difficult to see which areas I could break at first but after I realized which ones it made sense!

Developer

Combat did not come out the way we envisioned, so thanks for the advice. We’ll implement heath bars on the next one (time permitting).
