  • This is a fun game that shows the theme in a good way. You made the music fitting for the fight so it sets the mood even better! I like the graphics as well, your game is quite pretty! Issues with the game: You seem to not have keyboard settings other than QWERTY in mind when you set the controls, so jumping/select was a bit of a pain to use, why not use space instead? There seemed to be a bug with jumping on the controller? The character started autojumping sometimes? I also had one crash after playing for a while. And I think, since you recommend playing with a controller, it makes sense to actually show the controls for that in the game instead of the keyboard ones. I think this is a solid game with a good soundtrack, it's fun to play and easy to understand. I enjoyed testing your game and would like to see more of this! Well done!

Did you include your Game Design Document as a Google Drive link?
yes

Seriously... did you include your Game Design Document?

Tell us about your game!
Hello! The game is called Shellcasting, and I included keyboard controls on the games page. It also supports controller, and I'd rather it be played with that, but there's controls in the "How to Play" section in the main menu, and buttons on screen which should be legible that shows you what button does what.

But just in case: For keyboard controls, you use the arrow keys to move, Z to select/jump, X to cancel/shoot when holding gun, and C to pick up and throw (if you're in the air). The bunnyhop works by holding up and moving left and right, but it's not the regular jump. The jump is like 4 blocks tall and you can activate it while bunnyhopping but it's frame perfect. If you need to do a regular jump it's advised to stop holding jump and not bunnyhopping while you do it.

You play as a wizard with a shotgun called Wizzi, and it's a wave based tower defense game. The point is to defend obelisks from enemies to keep an evil wizard locked in a sarcophagus. Failing to do so will allow him to break free and a boss fight will start. You can craft items and potions at the altar where you spawn after each wave using alchemical base elements dropped by enemies! Pick them up and press X to drink them :D

Even if I don't rank in the top 10, I hope you enjoy the game anyway <3

The game design doc is included on the games page, but here it is anyway: https://docs.google.com/document/d/14hZeRWLuPBGcjt3__bnPj5IYnVUS_C-8JID0GkdfYhw/edit?usp=sharing

Extra Notes
All the pixel art, programming, and music was done by me. My only other team member was Bilexth, who made the drawn art of the title screen, the pause menu, and the message boxes.

Loved the music, loved the art, felt polished visually. The controls were totally confusing and I never figured out the crafting really! Besides that, the game was a ton of fun to play and I was bopping my head along to the music the whole time!

honestly incredible vibe. the controls for keyboard took a little while to get used to, but the fact that I had to learn them on the fly while enemies were attacking from all sides and the crazy music was playing actually made it fun to be under pressure! although my one issue is that I didn't have enough materials to make anything after the first wave—not too big of a problem, I just think it would be cool to afford a tower or something else right away so you can decide whether to spend it immediately or save up for something stronger (idk if the materials enemies drop are random, so if they are that explains it lol). overall great job!
