- Pretty neat game! It was a little hard to play and control, and I don't see exactly how the theme plays into this, but it holds potential.
Did you include your Game Design Document in your downloadable files?
Yes
Tell us about your game!
You play as a college student that just moved into their new apartment. However, it’s not the nicest of places and you may have roommates you were unaware of. Walk around your apartment and interact with objects to meet them. They will always spread, hide and make more friends. Engage in 1 of 2 minigames (others are a WIP). These can be found at the drawer in the player’s bedroom, and at the desk in the living room. Smack and swipe the bugs away but remember there will always be more next time.
Did you remember to include your Game Design Document?
Yes
Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes

Funnily enough, I had to get rid of a cockroach earlier today, so I kinda took that as a sign to finally play this.
The artstyle is striking. It reminds me of Salad Fingers, which gives it a bit of an uneasy vibe. After reading some of your comments and the GDD, I can see that's the vibe you guys were going for, and the visuals definitely help!
The sound work here is also a huge helping hand with that. I really like the crunchy step sound effect, but as some have stated, it could be a good idea to lower the volume of it, as it kind of overpowers the ambiance music.
The colliders can make the character get a bit freaky at times, but I'm sure these are things you guys are already working on.
The minigames serve as a simple example of what you guys are going for, and it'll be interesting to see some of the different minigames you guys are planning, and how differently they'll play out from eachother. Depending on how they're executed, they might be the strength of the game gameplay wise. I also really like some of the humor! Though, of course, Spoogle is nothing to be laughed about. It IS a very trustworthy browsing service, after all.
Lastly, seeing as this is you guys' first game, really good job!! It can be daunting to jump into something like making a game in such a short amount of time, but it's important to have fun doing it, it's important to be passionate about it, and I feel like you guys have checkmarked all of these boxes. Keep doing stuff!
Hey! Thanks so much for the feedback and encouragement it is greatly appreciated. We have a build almost ready for upload that we are super excited to share with everyone. It's going to be a long process to get this game to steam but we are hopeful people will enjoy the process as we slowly release cooler and cooler things. We are still very new to this and learning a ton along the way, but it has been a blast. Our artist had to take a bit of a break due to starting a new job, but I will make sure the feedback gets to her. She was a bit bummed by our judge rating but showing her how much people really do think the art is unique and fitting is really helping get the mind right. Again thank you so much for all the kind words. We are for sure going to keep on doing stuff. The jam was the spark now we just have to keep the fire kindled.
Nice work! Creepy soundtrack and satisfyingly squelchy roach-squashing effect.
I feel that you could bump up your movement/animation speed quite a bit... it can be a bit slow getting to where you want to go. Also maybe add some more colliders so you don't e.g. walk over your table or bed :)
Well done for getting it to the submit stage!
Edit: oh, and set your game name in the installer (it currently reads, "GameMaker Game" or similar).
Thanks so much for the feedback! I will route this over to the dev and get some changes implemented for our next update. We will likely release a bug fix update shortly after the judging period ends.
Hey! Dev here! Looks like the sprint button wasn't added to controls on the webpage. Try holding shift while walking this should increase the player speed. If it still feels like it needs adjusted please let me know. This was the first game we have ever exported so I will look into changing the game name in the installer. Shouldn't be hard at all! Thanks for the feedback.
Congrats! This might be a my machine thing, but first thing I noticed is the game window wouldn't full screen and it looked like the game sort cut off at the edges. When I walked there however I don't think that's the case.
The overall idea and mood is good. I liked the art style and the psuedo-handrawn look to everything. The close-ups were particularly well made.
For feedback, I might speed up the movement a bit and soften the walking sounds. Also more mini-games! Although they say WIP. Good work!
Hey! Thanks for the feedback :) Minigames are definitely a high priority, along with improvements to playability such as move speed. We currently have many minigames in the works all of which will "decay" much like the drawer minigame. I'll have our dev check out the full screen issue and should hopefully have that fixed for our first bug fix update.
Hey Dev here. Can you try holding the shift button when walking this should increase player speed. Also with the full screen issue, it would help me be able to fix this issue if I got a bit more information from you. Mainly what resolution is your monitor? We designed the game to be played in 1080p and this could cause issues with 4k monitors. This was an oversight that we are currently looking into addressing. Thank you for the feedback
I figured it was something like that...it's actually my laptop screen, resolution is 2560 x 1600
Oh my @.@ I don't know how to start. I'll just say the good things. I already like the game title and premise.
It sound super mysterious and spooky. Its actually quite creative as well because the only other time that I knew of similar idea is from world of horror, there was a mystery in that game where you are stuck in your room but everything starts to rot and at the end you need to fight the ghost of a dead tenant that used live in that house.
As soon as I heard the music I already loved it. feels very fitting :>
And the visual looks great too! The style really fits the theme although I wish the infestation is more prevalent or there is more visual indication of 'something' wrong.
I hope you guys follow through with the future of the game--there is promising prospect there ^^
Thank you so much for the feedback!!! This game may have been made for a jam but that doesn't mean we are stopping there! We have plans to incorporate the "decay" features of the minigames to the overworld once the day/night cycle has been implemented. This will help with seeing the infestation more prevalently as there will come a point where you no longer need to interact with objects to make the roaches scatter, they will do it on their own. We also have a full story that will be told through internal dialogue that is currently in the works. This will help convey the mental infestation spreading. Also thank you for brining up world of horror. I personally have not played it but it seems like a great source of inspiration so we will definitely be checking that out!
