- Lovely art, music and overall atmosphere! The jump was a bit stiff and the corrupted blocks are undistinguishable from the void which would sometimes leave me touching one by accident thinking I would jump over a gap.
Did you include your Game Design Document in your downloadable files?
yes (in zip)
Tell us about your game!
Skeletal Remains is a 3D platformer with stylized, black and white graphics, fast paced game-play, and light puzzle solving.
You can play with a keyboard or gamepad (d-pad)
Players will move through a series of short levels avoiding the spreading darkness that when touched, kills the player.
Players will be able to move (up, down, left, right) and jump.
Some level blocks will be solid and allow players to run across and jump on. Others will crumble after touching, causing the player to fall.
As previously mentioned, players will die when they touch the spreading darkness. Once a player passes through a certain point in the level, the spreading darkness will go from block to block.
Other mechanics will include locked doors, keys, and a power-up that allows the player to walk across black blocks (darkness) for a brief amount of time.
Did you remember to include your Game Design Document?
yes (in zip)
Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
yes

The visuals are really great, same goes for the music and sound fx. Feels very unique.
My controller didn't really jive with the game unfortunately (gullikit pro2 if you want to know... i.e. switch controller). It worked for a bit, then stopped working... I couldn't f.e. use the controller to navigate the menu. I made it to level 3 with my keyboard... that is quite something because I play video games with my controller usually.
There have been some glitches for me as well, like getting stuck on a black block(?) before falling down. The art and concept are a lot of fun though and the spreading darkness really keeps you on your toes!
Thanks dude! Not sure why your controller stopped working. The two I have here worked fined provided I used the d-pad, but that's good to know for future updates. Also I wasn't able to get the controllers to work with the menu in time.
I'm not sure about getting stuck, the black blocks never disappear, they remain ever after turning black (which is used in a mechanic later in the game).
Thanks for the feedback and taking the time to play.
I really enjoyed playing it but i think there are some aspects that can be improved easily. For example, it's a bit difficult to know where the player will land when jumping from a big distance, having a shadow to know where the player is can solve it.
The art style and sounds are perfect, I loved them!
Overall, it is a great game, congratulations on making it!
Thanks for the feedback, that's a good suggestion that I did try, but didn't like how it looked. I was going for a particular art style. That said, I probably should add something like you suggested....I'll think about it for future updates!
Loved the artstyle !
I am not a big platformer player but the game felt very nice !
Level 4 got me in trouble as I got stuck on the stairs every time and died unfortunatly
I stopped at Level 6 as I couldn't pass the end of the level with the two "spinning sticks" even using various methods to pass.
Still loved it !
Thanks for playing! I'm aware of the bug--it never happens on my machine and but seems to on other's sometimes--you can just jump up the stairs. Glad you were able to push through to level 6 anyway. Thanks again!
The graphics are amazing, they are unique, and you can tell that much love went into making them. The movement felt off to me I think it's because of the jump but I'm not sure, it may be that I'm not used to the 3D perspective of the game.
Looked at some of your other game and it's clear you know how to make a good looking game.
Thanks so much. After reading a few reviews, yours included, I might consider changing the jump. Thanks again for playing.
Glad you found me feedback useful
Wow, this is amazing! Great graphics, sound effects and music! I like how you incorporated the theme. Unfortunately got stuck on one of the levels multiple times (light switch after a door with double stairs leading to the exit) due to the skelly getting stuck on stairs, not being able to jump up before the light turns off. With some small level design tweaks this is a 10/10. :)
Thanks so much! Yeah I am aware of that bug. For some reason I never get stuck on my dev machine, but I noticed it happening on other machines after I submitted. Maybe the raycasting is different for different fps? Not sure, but too late to fix now!
I really like the music it feels bonelike which so fits with the skeleton theme. Love the art, really nice atmosphere. I like that it is black/white game that give it a lot of charm. Unfortunately I personally cannot get the hang of the jump. So i might totally doing something wrong but i cannot get past level 2 as it seems i need to be able to jump 2 blocks but I can never do it. (I am using keyboard just in case that makes a difference).
Thanks for the feedback. Starting in level 2 the levels require light puzzle solving to get through. So, it's not the jumping. That said, based on your feedback and others the level design could definitely use tweaking.
Thanks again for playing!
This is really slick. The art, the music, the sounds all mesh really well. I did not much like the inertia on the character, but that's because I suck at platformers. I got stuck on level 6. Very cool.
Thanks for playing! What do you mean by the character inertia?
When you land from a jump and immediately jump again, it's inclined to move in the same direction you were already moving, as opposed to the keys I'm butterfingering in another direction. It's more realistic the way you've done it, but for some reason I was expecting to be able to change my direction completely, or at least wanted the direction of the jump to match the direction I press.
My guess is that your jump takes the direction you're moving in when you press space to set the direction of the jump, rather than the direction inputs from the player.
The way your character handles is absolutely something I could get used to, and is part of the flavour of your game, I think I've just been playing a few too many precision platformer submissions.
oh I see, great observation. Yes the jump behaves as you described. I might play with how the jump works after judging.
Very very solid!!!
Graphically it was extremely charming. The first little swap up of the darkness to light when you go invulnerable was actually really great. For the most part, you do a good job of drawing players towards where they need to be, but a few levels do have branching paths that I don't think help the experience. I absolutely wanted to save the skeleton. I got to about level 8 before I had to put it down, and other than the thinner stairs being a little finicky, I really loved a lot of the choices you made. Keep at it!
Thanks for playing and your feedback! I agree some of the level design needs tweaking.
