Description
Lately I've been enamored with a few specific soundtracks, namely those from Sunless Sea, and FAR: Lone Sails. For my submission, I was picturing a platformer with RGP elements. "Egypt" is a drum and bass tune which marries synths and electronic drums with naturalistic instruments. In my mind, it's sort of like City Escape if it took place in Cairo. I needed an upbeat track in order to communicate the action, and sensation of running. "Postcards" was influenced by a specific track from FAR entitled: "Lights On". I enjoy the sparseness of this style, it's sweet and meditative. "Postcards" would be a good fit for a safe, or save state room in my hypothetical game. With "Merchant", I may have conjured the second coming of Hyrule's ghost shop. The Poe Collector possessed my fingers and I ended up playing a lot more guitar than I expected to. "Merchant" is simple, rhythm based, and a bit esoteric. I believe it fits well as a shop theme. All tracks were composed in Ableton Live.

Theme:

Runaway
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The primary track "Egypt" utilizes an upbeat genre in order to communicate fast and engaging action. The picture provided for this jam moved me to reach for naturalistic instruments, including strings, music box, and marimba.

Egypt - Cool track. I like how this track just keeps flowing forward. Nice production. My only wish is that it were longer. It's really nice and progressive and feels like it could've taken those progressions even further. Great work! This one is probably my favourite.

Postcards - Nice and relaxing. I quite like that pillowy bass. It works well with the subtle keys you have going over it. Very relaxing this one. Also love those sweeping pads.

Merchant - I do like how those percussions indeed immediately remind me of a Merchant. A Merchant in the desert to be precise. Great work.

Very nice soundtrack. I imagine this one would work as videogame music extremely well because of its unobtrusive nature. That's not to say it's boring, it is definitely not boring. It is constantly evolving in a great way.

Awesome job!

I appreciate your thoughtful message. Yeah, I JUST made the length requirement... oddly enough my biggest issues with what I've turned out here have to do with the mix-- but I think that's just the spirit of the jam, we made what we could. Certainly, I may spend more time on Egypt in the future. I'm quite fond of it myself. Maybe I can flip it into a more complete track.

Very unusual entry. I love that synth doodling! Thanks for sharing!

A nice collection of tracks! Big fan of the ambience in Postcards, short but sweet.

Nice job with Egypt! Wish it was it's own track so I could loop it. But really I wish it was longer :)

Here is an isolated export of Egypt :)

I really enjoyed how groovy and engaging each of the tracks were. My only wish is that they were longer! Great work :)

I expected great music and got great music! I really liked Egypt and Merchant with the drums and melodies, although I don't see the OSTs matching with the picture theme, but only the word theme. Nevertheless, it's great!

Really solid tracks, each seemed to capture the essence of what you were after (based on your descriptions above). I appreciated the upbeat vibes for 'Egypt' that felt like I was standing in the sun, which was a refreshing change. Good listen.
