Fun little game. It definitely feels solid. I was not able to get past the spikes... but I'm pretty terrible at platformers. ;)

Good work!

This was good fun! A nice cohesive art style and the movement felt pretty good too. I'm curious, how did you get the platform shadows to work? Are they manually tiled, or are they from a light source, or programmatically generated?

Developer

Thanks, Cam!  The shadows are manually tiled at this point. Although now that I think about it, adding lamps hanging from the ceiling as dynamic light sources might be a good idea! :)

Great game! Cool idea and level design! And it's very polished. Once I managed to get the box stuck on my path, so had to restart :] But I enjoyed the game!

Developer

Thank you kindly! :) Did that box stuck-in-path thing happen on the tutorial level at the first appearance of the boxes?

Yes, exactly! I was bouncing up & down, cause I had to get those 2 coins >:)

This is probably the most elaborated and complete game I've played so far among the ones submitted for MFJG-2021. It combines challenges, spacial reasoning, keyboard dexterity and good humor.

As a sound designer, I am missing some music (and it would be great to match the music with the different states of the gravity, just a thought). Also, the dead sfx becomes really annoying  after a while.  You can try some randomization in pitch for the bouncing sounds to make them less repetitive, although they sound pretty good as they are right now.

Congratulations, you are pretty talented and created a fantastic and engaging game.

Best,

Ivan

Thank you for your kind words! You are 100% right about the audio; I hastily generated the sound effects in ChipTone, it really needs a redo. And I'm definitely going to pick up some music at Incompetech's, at least :) the gravity-dependent dynamic music is a great idea!

Awesome. Hit me up on Discord (VanyaBel#5134) if you want to work together in the audio.

How good is ChipTone! I used it for my sound effects too.

This is the Dark Souls of platformers. You put a ton of polish in this and it shows. I really loved your respawn mechanism. It made dying 20 times on the lava part manageable xD. Reverse gravity was cool too - reminds me of one of my favorite games VVVVV

Developer

Thank you! I wasn't planning on making it Dark Souls-hard, I might take the difficulty down a notch :)
VVVVVV was one of my inspirations.
