[Devlog] Xenthreaded's game

(I guess I should at least start the topic so I can leave it dead until the end of the jam haha)

I'm working alone for this jam, kind of. I have a friend who is okay to do a little bit of music ^^

My goals are pretty simple : actually finish something. I technically did another jam before but I had no sense of scope and it wasn't even playable by the end. And also to have fun because yeah, having fun is fun.

I started with a bit of brainstorming around the theme, on paper (and in french sorry)

The game idea



So the game will be a roguelikelikelikelike (see definition in next pictures) where you explore the ocean to clean the plastics. But the thing is that you're limited in time because if you don't clean the ocean enough : plastics will break down and turn into microplastics. Then you won't be able to easily clean it anymore. Also jellyfishes are corrupted by plastics (idk it sounded fun).

Actually making the game

This game is my first project in Godot and it's awesome ! It's easy to understand and free software !

The week-end was dedicated to learning Godot so did not make a lot of progress. But today I picked up some momentum, and what momentum haha !

The boat is modeled in blender (I initially intended it to be only reference for my pixel art but I'm thinking of making my game Age Of Empires Style) and turned into sprite thanks to this awesome tutorial.

Well, that's it for today. I'll continue working on it. Stay tuned !

Thanks for that tutorial. By the way, I had to switch my OS to Linux out of necessity and I was wondering, which Blender guide did you use to get started? Thanks. (I was a 3ds max user previously)

The boat looks good and hey, you got it working in all 4 directions! I gotta be happy someone else is going the isometric route too.

I just saw your thread and thought the same thing about the isometric style haha.

Oh I'm sorry I can't help you much with blender I used it a long time ago. And I kind of tried to remember basic stuff by memory. The guide was on a french website so I don't know if it will help.
