Notes from gameplay:

- GIANT file for a game jam, assuming because it's Unreal?

- Clock noise at launch is effective, sets a creepy tone for the game

- Love the game title, great combo of fonts. Play/credits/quit font doesn't match well, would look much nicer if it was same font as one of the title fonts. Capital letters not being italicized also adds a weird look

- I really like the minimap showing incoming zombies

- Figured out quickly R was reload, fairly intuitive, but could have a popup saying so

- I like the blood splatter on hit. Do I have a health bar? Zombie seems to hit me once and then just hang out or wander away, doesn't seem to be much danger

- I made bubbles come out of the ground?

- Distant shots don't seem to register as hits

- I like the pumpkin assets (especially the one on the right with the tiny cute smiley face) but they are so shiny that they look like ceramic

- First level is creepy and atmospheric in visuals, but would benefit from extra details like fog

- Just randomly died, didn't see any hits or anything first. Restarting

- Is there a melee attack? That would be nice to have

- The building is very liminal, would be nice to have more clutter in here to make it feel like more immersive scenery

- I like the option to switch to the other gun you find in the building

- Shotgun fire sound seems to play twice

- what are the blue dots on minimap? Edit: objects to pick up

- Level ended again. I realized it's the timer running out - some indicator here for why the game ended would be nice, especially if we had some bigger visual (screen flash, text message displaying middle of screen, etc) and auditory cues when the timer is getting low. This would build tension about finding more zombies to kill as time ticks down. Zombies remaining or zombies left would also be a clearer text

- Some zombies appear to glitch out/vanish when shot (maybe when they are hitting scenery)

- Nice job creating full boundaries on the play field, though some of the rocks appear to be untextured

- Map is quite large, can't seem to find all the zombies in time. Maybe have a few extra spawned or have them path towards gunfire sound. Tried 6 times but could never find the final zombie to kill.

- What's with the orange rock outside the building?

Overall, solid creation with nice clean controls and movement. Good ambience!

I appreciate the detailed feedback you provided on Dead Zone. Your insights are incredibly valuable to me as a developer, and I'm grateful for your observations. Here's my response:

  •  The large file size is indeed a result of utilizing the Unreal Engine, which grants powerful capabilities but does lead to bigger file sizes.
  •  I'm pleased to hear that the clock noise effectively sets the tone for the game's atmosphere. Crafting the right ambiance is essential for the overall experience.
  • Your feedback regarding the fonts and their consistency is duly noted. I'll be working on ensuring a cohesive visual style across all aspects of the game, including fonts.
  •  I'm glad to know you appreciated the minimap feature. It's designed to enhance players' awareness and improve overall gameplay.
  •  Your suggestion about implementing a pop-up tutorial for actions like reloading is excellent. Clear guidance is crucial, and I'll make sure to incorporate this feature.
  • Blood splatters indeed play a vital role in providing feedback. I'll be focusing on balancing the zombies' aggression level to create a more challenging and engaging experience.
  • I had the (bad) idea of using bubbles as an indicator for the location of downed zombies to enhance the gaming experience. I will definitely find a better asset to replace them!
  • Addressing the problem of distant shots not registering as hits is a top priority. Improving combat mechanics is crucial for player satisfaction.
  • Your comment about the shininess of pumpkin assets is well taken. I'll be adjusting their textures to achieve a more realistic look and feel.
  •  The addition of fog and other atmospheric details is on my agenda. These enhancements will contribute to a more immersive gaming experience.
  • Your feedback about the lack of visual and auditory cues for game-ending events is duly noted. Enhancing player awareness and tension is essential, and I'll work on incorporating clear indicators.
  •  I'm actively investigating the glitches and disappearing zombies to ensure a smoother gameplay experience. Players' immersion is a top priority.
  • I'll be addressing the issue with untextured rocks promptly. Visual consistency is key for a polished gaming environment.
  • Your input regarding the map size and zombie placement is crucial. Balancing gameplay elements is essential for an enjoyable experience, and your suggestions will be taken into account.
  • The confusion caused by the orange rock outside the building is noted. I'll provide more context or consider removing it to avoid any misunderstandings.

Once again, I'm grateful for your feedback on the game's controls and ambiance. Your insights are invaluable, thanks to these comments I can improve the game  🎮

yeah lol propably but thats kinda weak i hoped at least for someone to write a reasonable feedback :(

i mean what do you fear? a virus lol ?! do you believe id be that sutpid uploading something else then a normal game, especially for the jam..... without any dangers but well i cant change your opinion, impossible mission

Yes, a virus is exactly what I am protecting against. It has nothing to do with you, this is simply my policy for trying out games, and imo it's a very reasonable outlook. If you want to continue discussion, let's please move this away from another person's game page.

Good game, controls are smooth. Gameplay is good. I still can't find that last one zombie though, should have some noise indicator when I get close to them, because the last 4 zombies are hard to find and I rely on the minimap to get a glimpse of them, the zombies blend with the trees and the background.

Hi Guibel,

Thank you for the comment!

You are right, I was thinking about it because of the sound issue. Thank you very much for the advice :-)
