Really cute game!! I loved all the sound effects and the art style is ADDICTIVE, visually its a super polished game. Like other feedback, I think a little more complexity would take this game really far, either a mechanic where you have to be strategic with your photos (maybe the the butterflies cluster and you have to save your film for those moments)(or the highscore is some ratio of butterflies captured against photos taken to encourage strategic photo taking), or certain bugs that count against your score, or butterflies that move away from your cursor making it harder to take a pic, etc. I think the gameplay is super intuitive, enhanced by your SFX choices and the camera UI mouse cursor, although reloading my film took me a while to figure out. While I LOVED the sound effects I think the song choice felt a tad at odds with the premise sounding spooky, high paced, and heavy, I think I expected a more delicate song-- but maybe there's something to subverting the 'butterfly' genre and taking it in a spooky, high-paced, heavy direction so I could be totally wrong. I think you have the grounds for a really addictive game here, and again, I am OBSESSED with your art style, I think it works perfect for the premise.
I think Scrumbo captured most of the thoughts that I would share already, but mainly I agree that some more complexity would go a long way. On top of moths that reduce score, maybe something like camera rolls that reload or partially reload your camera instantly when you take a shot of them could also help.
It's also difficult to tell when you're getting credit for a photo and how much credit you're getting - the score counter goes up, but it's not really possible to tell how many points you're getting with each shot as you're playing. It would be great if there were little numbers that came up from each butterfly when you took their picture, so you have some feedback on when you're getting points from each butterfly.
I think that mashing is a bit of an issue here as well, since it felt like the best strategy was pretty much to just click as fast as possible on high-scoring groups, which feels less dynamic. Making butterflies vanish after their picture is taken would alleviate this a lot and make sure the player is moving around more, while also making it much clearer when points are being gained!
A cute little game that I think could be great with some tweaks.
I think your game excels at being super easy to pick up and play, and it sorta reminds me of something you'd see in Mario Party. I think the next step would be to add some sort of complexity, like maybe evil moths that take away score, or maybe an active reload for the camera or something. As it stands its pretty easy to get by if you just mash to take pics and be sure to reload the camera every once and a while, so anything that adds even a little more complexity can elevate this from good to great!
I think you have a great foundation that you could build upon, not to mention a catchy title and some nice art! keep it up!
